Coping with stress and depression during divorce and separation

Going through a contested divorce or separation can be a gut wrenching and mentally draining experience. Depression can take over at any time and turn your life upside down. If you feel that you are experiencing stress or depression, it is vital that you do seek support sooner rather than later.

These feelings are often described as feeling of hopelessness and sometimes not feeling anything at all. We have all had times in our lives when we struggle to cope and move on with what life throws our way. Going through a contested divorce is undoubtedly going to be stressful and a time where we recognise our feelings.

Tips to help manage stress during divorce or separation:

go for a walk on your own, or with your children. Getting yourself out in the fresh air can really help to clear your mind
take up an activity with your children such as baking a cake or playing a game
try to laugh as this can help lift your spirits
speak to a divorce lawyer and clear up any unwarranted fears about the divorce process in Singapore
• keep a diary as this is a great way of helping you to express your feelings and will avoid you bottling things up
talk to someone you don’t know to stop feeling as though you are a nuisance when talking with friends and family
