When your house is on Fire, you tend not to focus on the swelling sinkhole in your backyard. But once the fire is put out (tomorrow? next week? next month?) we must confront the real lasting damage Trump has done to genuine expertise in the federal government. Regardless of whether government services are provided efficiently or not, this expertise is essential for, well, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The piece from Bulwark below examines the destruction that's already taken place and considers the implications of Trump's recent executive order giving him the right to fire at will thousands of previously off-limits Civil Servants. This is one campaign promise he is keeping.
