September 26, 2014 -- One of the leaders in LGBT tourism development is visitBerlin - the convention and visitors bureau of the city of Berlin.
For the past few years Berlin has developed an industry-leading network of LGBT-welcoming hotels under the brand name pink pillow Berlin Collection.
From its initial humble beginnings of just a handful of properties, the collection now includes more than 60 separate accommodation options right across Berlin.
One of the program's outstanding elements involves community outreach by each hotel with a local LGBT community initiative or organization - helping staff and the Berlin LGBT communities connect and build empathy and understanding in ways that are hard to quantify but intrinsic to understand. People who have LGBT contacts and friends are almost always more understanding and supportive of their LGBT family, friends and guests.
Berlin's pink pillow Takes to the Road
This month, visitBerlin visited two of Europe's key LGBT tourism cities - Amsterdam and Brussels - to share the word about this accommodation service initiative with many key people from the local LGBT communities of these two European capitals.
With special presentations from visitBerlin, pink pillow and Berlin's Schwules Museum* - the world's first LGBT museum - those attending were able to learn much about what makes LGBT Berlin, and the pink pillow collection, so special.
One lucky visitor in each city even enjoyed the prize of a three day visit to Berlin complete with Welcome Card.
