Atty. Ben Crump who has been dubbed "Black America's attorney general" by the public for his work helping families in high-profile civil rights cases—like Trayvon Martin, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor—reach historic settlements and verdicts yesterday donated $50,000 to the FAMU School of Journalism & Graphic Communications at the joint convention of the National Association of Black Journalist and National Association of Hispanic Journalist in Las Vegas, NV. The surprise donation came after a screening of his Netflix documentary "CIVIL."
The donation will be used for scholarships to train aspiring new journalist at FAMU. Crump said, "It is my hope that this donation will help us get the next Roland Martin, April Ryan, or Robin Roberts."
"I make no bones about it, I believe that we have to fight in two courts, the court of law and the court of public opinion. And, Black journalist have helped us to win a number of these "no win cases" by helping us win in the court of public opinion," Crump added.
Crump, a Florida State University graduate, is the founder of the Tallahassee-based Ben Crump Law Firm.
