FAMU's four-year graduation rate suffers a COVID dip

FAMU’s 4-year Graduation Rate for first time in college, full-time students, entering in 2017-21 was 27%, a 7.6 % decline from the 34.6% for the 2016-20 cohort.  The 27% rate was also 11 points short of the 38% grad rate the university had hope to achieve.

The University reported the numbers to the Florida Board of Governors for consideration for a slice of more than half a billion dollars in state performance based funding dollars.

All-in-all, FAMU’s 27% 4-year rate is a nine point improvement from four years ago.

In 2017 Florida shifted its performance based funding metric to away from using the standard 6-year graduation rate (used nationally) to a 4-year graduation rate.

FAMU has set a goal of achieving a 40% 4-year graduation rate for its FTIC 2018-22 cohort, if achieved, it would likely place the university among the top five HBCUs.  In May, the university received a $1.2 million gift from Frank and Laura Baker to help students graduate in four years.
