The Irene C. Edmonds Youth Theatre (ICEYT) camp at in FAMU's Essential Theatre, now in its 22nd year, is a five-week performing arts camp that seeks to enhance the intellectual, emotional, creative, and artistic abilities and talents of boys and girls ages 7-16.
The camp introduces and exposes participants to the arts - theatre, music and dance - through daily classes, workshops and cultural/entertainment excursions. And, just like the summer band camp, ICEYT culminates with a theatrical production from July 11-13.
This years’ group of 33 campers will present the "House of Jean-Rene" a multi-narrative drama, written and directed by ICEYT's co-director, James Webb. Named in honor of Irene C. Edmonds, a former FAMU professor and pioneer in African American Children’s Theatre, who founded and directed the acclaimed FAMU Creative Children’s Theatre for twelve years (1948-1960).
