Even for someone more introverted, #waystogrow Part Time Business After Retirement brings its challenges. These days life is unpredictable, unstable and uncertain. Anxiety is present before we factor in our fears of this time of life.

But wait! As I think back over my decades, both work and life challenges can accompany us at any stage in life.

If you’re a baby boomer like me, you know whether you are retired or close to it, our retirement in not our parent’s retirement.

By reflecting on life more as a journey, an adventure, maybe we can find it more satisfying. Whether you were a small businessperson, entrepreneur or working as an employee if you have a desire or need there is still work after retirement.

Note: This is not a post to help you learn how working and earning and income in the USA could affect your Social Security https://www.ssa.gov/planners/retire/selfemp.html . You’ll need to do some research on that aspect.

Surround yourself in optimism

The Bible and science give us proof of and motivation for gratitude as benefiting us in so many different ways including, optimism. It takes just being grateful for three things a day to enjoy optimism.

Whether you did or did not enjoy your job before you retired, this is the time to decide to work on and in something you love.

Maybe you aren’t confident you even have enough money saved for retirement? Seriously, who starts saving when they need to? Lack of savings is, even more, a reason to find optimism around you.

Be grateful you can choose to work! Not everyone is fit enough that they can. Some even though they can work, might find themselves in a caregiving mode!

Lead from your strengths

Being retired doesn’t mean we’re lazy or lack energy. It means finding out what strengths from which we can lead.

Maybe we get more energy being around others and could benefit by continuing to network in our community. It might even be we expand the places and organizations to mingle.

Some of us are more relaxed. We might find something we could volunteer playing in a few areas, on our schedule. This could lead us to find something we enjoy – either employment or a new idea to consider as a business.

The key is to know and act on your strengths as trust yourself to know which direction to go.

If you’re more introverted, learn how to work from your strengths for smoother sailing throughout life.

Bills to pay

Considering you do have bills to pay in life and retirement if you do continue to work in your own part-time business, make invoicing easy on yourself. There are many technology tools today you could consider, one being QuickBooks invoicing.

After all, we are retired, correct? Be smarter about working!

Smarter income

Last month my husband and I traveled to Sedona Arizona for the fourth or fifth time. It is incredible how many businesses use an iPad to collect payment! Coaches and speakers like me don’t after all have a lock on this. Because I know when I share a message on the platform many people want to hear more, I carry books for them to buy. I happen to use Square and Paypal for people without cash, to purchase an autographed copy.

Spend more time fishing

Have you heard the Fisherman and businessman parable? The wisdom is profound life advice regardless of where you are in your working career. This year I finally found both the source (Heinrich Böll in 1963) and then the author who rewrote it back in 1999 and first posted it on the internet. Here it is in his video by Albion:

More Than Money: The Good Life Parable

Also, know as The Fisherman Story

The story is in a harbor in a Mexican village. A smartly-dressed enterprising tourist is taking photographs when he notices a shabbily dressed local fisherman taking a nap in his fishing boat. The tourist is disappointed with the fisherman’s apparently lazy attitude towards his work, so he approaches the fisherman and asks him why he is lying around instead of catching fish. The fisherman explains that he went fishing in the morning, and the small catch would be sufficient for the next two days.

The tourist tells him that if he goes out to catch fish multiple times a day, he would be able to buy a motor in less than a year, a second boat in less than two years, and so on. The tourist further explains that one day, the fisherman could even build a small cold storage plant, later a pickling factory, fly around in a helicopter, build a fish restaurant, and export lobster directly to Paris without a middleman.

The nonchalant fisherman asks, “Then what?”

The tourist enthusiastically continues, “Then, without a care in the world, you could sit here in the harbor, doze in the sun, and look at the glorious sea.”

“But I’m already doing that”, says the fisherman.

The enlightened tourist walks away pensively, with no trace of pity for the fisherman, only a little envy.

There are many life messages in this story.

As related to #waystogrow Part Time Business In Retirement Adventures: many if not most of us work, work, work looking for money and happiness. If there is a sure found link between the two, there would be no such thing as a poor happy person or an unhappy rich person. Most of us recognize this.

Since our retirement might be a second chance at life, how will you live it better?

What can you do during this time around in your work to have it give you more peace and contentment?

Is there congruity between how you are growing your part time work or business after retirement and your happiness?
