Dallas-Fort Worth Sees Big Gains in Construction Jobs

While some jobs went away in early 2020, the Dallas-Fort Worth area is currently seeing some big gains when it comes to Construction Jobs. According to some of the latest figures from the Associated General Contractors of America, the region’s building sector saw a gain of 7,400 jobs this past December, when compared to the previous December.  The Dallas area alone saw about 5,800 of those new construction jobs. That’s significant, because 2020 saw a loss of 4,000 jobs.  For those keeping tabs on the market, the numbers probably aren’t too surprising. With a 45-percent increase in residential and commercial construction starts, North Texas was the nation’s second busiest market for building in the entire nation last year. As for the addition of new construction jobs last year, Dallas-Fort Worth also came in second place. With the addition of 8,800 jobs, Houston saw the greatest gains in the building sector. San Antonio and the Austin area both saw small declines.  While most metros did add construction workers last year, labor shortages and supply chain shortages still seem to be a problem. The industry group estimates there were about 273,000 construction job openings at the end of last year.
