Winter Foot Care

Winter Foot care is more than just keeping covered and toasty warm. Here are three things to keep in mind about your feet during Winter.

Keep Feet Dry
During cold weather wearing closed, waterproof boots combined with sock material that traps moisture against your skin, and your feet could be constantly damp. Choose wool socks or special synthetics made to absorb moisture.

You Still Have Dirty Feet
Bacteria and fungi do not go away just because it is cold outside.  Your feet are confined into shoes in the perfect environment for a fungal infection – as well as smelly feet. You can eliminate both issues by washing and drying your feet every day.

Dry Skin Issues
Winter air tends to dry out your skin which can lead to built-up layers of calluses. Calluses are the first noticeable issue before your skin split, bleed, or form painful fissures that open your feet to bacteria. Foot infections are an increased risk if you are diabetic and poor circulation slows your healing time. Applying heavier moisturizer at night on your heels, toes, and the ball of your foot to keep calluses from forming in those locations.
