Which Major Environmental Issues Do Americans Care About? Poll To Know

The environment plays a crucial role in the sustainability of life as we know it here on Earth. All living things depend on the planet’s resources to survive and, if humans continue to pollute and over-use these resources, they may be completely destroyed or depleted in a matter of years. Recently, a number of Environmental Issues have risen to new heights, affecting economies and policies worldwide. Environmental issues are no more country-specific, they have become a global concern now. The thickness of the atmospheric layer is decreasing at an alarming rate, the glaciers are melting at a great speed, forest fires, limited availability of freshwater, and the concern of the black hole. Every environmental issue is directly or indirectly related to human activities. Therefore, various countries conduct polls to know what citizens think of environmental issues. In this blog, we would be discussing the people of America and which are the major environmental issues they care about.

[Survey Result – Conducted By Gallup]

According to a recent survey, it was observed that a recorded number of Americans actually understand that sudden climate change is due to increasing environmental issues. Moreover, they are increasingly worried about its effects on their lives today.

The result of the poll showed that almost 73% of Americans raised concerns regarding global warming and the percentage of these people keeps rising. The polls and survey revolve around the questions mentioned below:

How serious a problem is global warming for the United States and for the world?

Are the President and members of Congress ascribing sufficient importance to the issue of global warming?

Do Americans support government efforts to reduce greenhouse gases, such as higher taxes on electricity and gasoline, or tax breaks for companies that produce more renewable or clean energy?

Americans Support To Protect Environment:

A survey conducted in the year 2019 claimed that about three-quarters of U.S. adults (74%) said “the country should do whatever it takes to protect the environment,” compared with 23% who said, “the country has gone too far in its efforts to protect the environment.” While public opinion on climate issues has fluctuated over the years, many of the recent changes were large enough to fall outside the margin of error. Americans’ growing understanding of global warming is part of a long-term trend

American’s Say On Recycling Of The Waste – Environmental Issue

Overall, 32% of U.S. adults say they are bothered a lot by people throwing away things that could be recycled. Roughly six-in-ten Americans who say they always try to live in ways that protect the environment say it bothers them “a lot” when others throw away things that could be recycled. People who are environmentally conscious are also twice as likely as others to say that seeing someone incorrectly putting trash in recycling bins bothers them a lot (42% vs. 21%).

The poll conducted by the experts of the American Environmental Research Center shows that a majority of Americans do recycle. Close to half of U.S. adults (46%) said that they recycle or reduce waste to protect the environment “whenever possible,” while 30% said they do so “most of the time” and 19% reported doing so “occasionally.” Just 4% of the public said they “never” recycle or reduce waste to protect the environment. One of the most important things this survey showed was that older Americans are modestly more inclined than their younger counterparts to say they recycle and reduce waste “whenever possible.”

Poll To Know The American Environmental Values

The American Environmental Values Survey asked Americans about environmental issues, behaviors and concerns; other social and cultural issues; voting and political attitudes; and general attitudes and demographic questions.

66% of Americans believe we can control global warming
66% believe it will impact them during their lifetimes
57% believe we are not doing enough to control it
45% believe global warming is a bigger threat to America than terrorism
40% would be willing to see taxes raised to address global warming

Summary:

The U.S. is just one of many countries suffering from—and contributing to—these effects. From air pollution to the depletion of non-renewable resources, the nation is beginning to recognize and address environmental issues within its borders. The proportion of Americans who are “alarmed” by global warming tripled over the last five years and is now at an all-time high, a new survey show. Almost 6 in 10 Americans are either “alarmed” or “concerned” by global warming, marking what researchers say is a major shift in public perception of the issue. People who are most worried about global warming and support measures to reduce heat-trapping carbon pollution. The findings show that as the global climate changes rapidly, a growing proportion of Americans view the climate crisis as an actual crisis. These polls/surveys help in understanding the citizens better and knowing what they are concerned about. Polls are not only helping just business houses but also prove to be helpful to the Government to understand its citizens better.
