Like neighboring communities Green Trails and Windsor Park Lakes, Lake Forest of Kelliwood (also known as Lakeforest at Kelliwood) was developed some time during the mid-1990s.

The community is from Kickerillo Companies, the same developer behind Lakes of Parkway (west Houston), The Parkway at Eldridge (west Houston), and Rolling Creek (Fort Bend).

Vincent Kickerillo named the development made up of several neighborhoods and communities in east Katy after his daughter Kelli. Kelliwood features a variety of homes, with lakeside properties and homes near the golf course.

Lake Forest of Kelliwood, along with Lakes of Buckingham, feature some of the most expensive homes in the Kelliwood area. Both are gated communities with 24-hour manned security gates and share an HOA.
