Getting to Know Attorney Joseph Lehn

Those who know Attorney Lehn know him to be a hard-working and compassionate attorney who is always looking out for the best interest of his clients. But we invite you to get to know him a little better.

Question:  What made you decide to become a lawyer? I mean besides being able to argue for a living!

Answer:    Very funny.  Although that is part of it, I decided to go to law school because I wanted to help people who can’t help themselves.  Everyone deserves to have legal representation.

Question:  Do you have a favorite area of law?

Answer:    I like all of the areas in which I practice since they each bring about their own unique circumstances and quandaries, but I would say Elder Law is one of my favorites.  Which is why I received my  Masters in elder law at Stetson.
That is a second law degree specifically pertaining to areas such as probate, guardianship, estate planning, and Medicaid and asset protection. I feel like there is truly a need given the population in the community here is SWFL.

Question:  What makes you different than other attorneys in the area?

Answer:    I understand the value of hard work, I’m one of 11 children to George and Rita Lehn from Long Island, NY. Both my parents were blue collar workers.  My dad worked two jobs. We didn’t have much in the way of material things as kids growing up, but my parents did instill the value of hard work in all of us.

Question:  What is the best thing about being a lawyer?

Answer:    Hmmm..                notice the silence? Although challenging at times, the rewards are endless. I get huge satisfaction in knowing that my clients have faith in me and trust that I will get the job done.  There is nothing better than ‘winning’ a case and not necessarily for the sake of winning but for the fact that I can significantly change my clients’ lives for the better.

Question:  What do you see the biggest mistake that some people make when they are faced with a legal issue?

Answer:  Unfortunately, far too often when people are confronted with a complex legal issue, they ignore it.  That is the LAST thing someone should do.  Become empowered!  Know your rights and take action!

Question:  If you could advise one thing to the listeners, what would it be?

Answer:    Do not represent yourself.  It may seem more affordable, but in the end it usually ends up costing you much more!
