A company in Norfolk has been ordered to pay £13,500 in fines and £3,603 legal costs after a worker suffered a serious personal Injury to his hand.
Ferrisgate Coatings Limited, based in Thetford, Norfolk, pleaded guilty to the charges of breaching the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, Regulation 11(1) during a hearing at Norfolk Magistrates Court on 29 April.

The worker’s fingers were caught in an unguarded in-running nip between the rollers of a large machine used for the application of plastic lamination in the incident which happened on 19 December 2013.
Regulation 11(1) of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 states:
“Every employer shall ensure that measures are taken which are effective – (a) to prevent access to any dangerous part of machinery or to any rotating stock-bar; or (b) to stop the movement of any dangerous part of machinery or rotating stock-bar before any part of a person enters a danger zone.”
