Now that it’s December, the days are shorter and the weather colder, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t opportunities to celebrate. Keep your mood merry by visiting one of the many Holiday markets, fairs, and celebrations across Canada.

Alberta

Calgary Christmas Farmers Market (Calgary) – November 18 – December 23

If you’re looking for a festive holiday experience, check out the Calgary Christmas Farmers Market. Have a meal at the licensed Food Hall, get cozy around the fireplace, pick out a Christmas tree, and get your shopping list completed by visiting one of the many vendors offering handcrafted goods. You can even get a photo with the Grinch or have tea with Mrs. Claus while your kids have fun at Crafty Craft Lane!

Edmonton Christmas Market (Edmonton) – Army & Navy Whyte Avenue (November 26 -28; December 3 – 5) and Fort Edmonton Park (December 8 – 12) 

Edmonton Christmas Market is your holiday destination! Check out the winter rides, culinary experiences, pop-up food hall, cocktail bar, market vendors, pop-up shops, and DJs. Whether you’re coming as a family or looking for a holiday experience with a friend, there’s something for everyone at the market. This season, there are two locations: Edmonton Park and the Army & Navy Building on Whyte Avenue. 

British Columbia

Vancouver Christmas Market (Vancouver) – November 13 – December 24

Downtown Vancouver’s beloved holiday tradition is back. Delight in German-style food and drinks and stroll through a wonderland of holiday shopping, music, and lights. Activities include the Alpine Lounge, a scavenger hunt, the Holidaylife Carousel, a walk-in Christmas tree, and much more. 


Lumagica (Surrey) – December 3 – 30, excluding December 25

Lumagica is an indoor/outdoor global holiday experience, unique to each location, and it makes its Canadian debut at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds in Surrey. Take a fantastical journey through diverse lands to capture and believe in the spirit of the Holidays. You are then transported through a light tunnel to Gingerbread Lane, leading to the magical North Pole Village. Soak up the magical atmosphere with interactive displays, animation, photo opportunities, a festive marketplace, and surprises galore for all ages.

Manitoba

Lights of the North (Winnipeg) – November 25 – January 22

Fill your heart with joy and light up your holidays with Lights of the North. Come to stroll, laugh and play under the twinkle of more than half-million Christmas-themed 3D light sculptures. Have fun with family and friends inside a warm and cozy indoor space that is filled with the magic of lights.

Canad Inns Winter Wonderland (Winnipeg) – December 3 – January 8 

Canad Inns Winter Wonderland is a partnership with Red River Exhibition Park, offering the Winnipeg community a festive seasonal drive-through light display each December and January. The display offers over one million lights and over 26 different theme areas during a 2.5 km drive in the comfort of your car. Winter Wonderland also features a skating rink and a Holiday Photo Stop for all your photo op needs!

New Brunswick

Christmas In The Valley (Fredericton) – December 4, 5, 11 and 12

For two weekends in December, Kings Landing comes alive for Christmas! Select homes and shops are open as the Village prepares for Christmas. They would love to welcome you for a visit! From warm fires and wagon rides to Victorian décor, a trip to this Victorian Era village is sure to get you in the holiday spirit.

Newfoundland and Labrador

Merry & Bright Holiday Light Festival (St. John’s) – December 3 – 22

St. John’s’ Memorial University Botanical Garden opens for the Merry & Bright Holiday Light Festival this December! After last year’s community-based pivot, which saw the event hit the road, 2021 will have the Garden glowing once again with a spectacular light display. Take a winter evening stroll, sip hot chocolate, and warm yourself by the fire.

Nova Scotia

Glow Gardens (Halifax) – November 24 – January 2

Glow Gardens transforms the spacious Halifax Exhibition Centre into a magical indoor Christmas exhibition of lights and entertainment, with a concert series featuring local performers, a winter market, food and beverages, private rooms for social events and so much more! This year, the event brings a whole new interactive zone, for kids and families to enjoy. The “Fun Land” will combine the tour of Glow Gardens with fun amusements and games.

Evergreen Festival (Halifax) – November 26 – December 19

Evergreen Festival is a four-week-long outdoor winter showcase of Nova Scotian culture, food, spirits, craft, art, and memorable experiences to celebrate and embrace the essence of the season. Retailers, restaurants, hotels, attractions, public spaces throughout the Halifax region will bring to life illuminations, programming, and animations that create a festive feeling of celebration!

Ontario

The Distillery Winter Village (Toronto) – November 18 – December 31

The Distillery Winter Village is a dream come true for those looking for holiday magic. Amongst 75+ local merchants, restaurants and cafés, you’ll find eight new vendor cabins offering uniquely curated seasonal items and gifts, plus 12 mouth-watering food cabins. Check out the photo walls, grab a selfie with Santa, or buy your Christmas tree!

Ottawa Christmas Market (Ottawa) – November 26 – December 22

The Ottawa Christmas Market is located in the Casino Lac Leamy Plaza, surrounded by snow-capped heritage buildings and wooden chalets. Thousands of Christmas lights and decorations twinkle and sparkle to create that festive atmosphere accompanied by holiday entertainment, local flavours, and, of course, some holiday shopping!

Prince Edward Island

Charlottetown Christmas Festival (Charlottetown) – November 12 – December 19

Prince Edward Island’s most magical Christmas festival of the year. This year, enjoy the return of Whoville, the outdoor Victorian Christmas Market, Peake’s Wharf Christmas Village, Holiday Projections on the Plaza, and live Holiday Programming. In addition, there will be many craft and artisans’ markets, wine tastings, walking tours, horse and wagon rides, children’s entertainment, and much more!

Quebec

Noël Montréal (Montreal) – November 20 – January 2 

During this festive season, visit the Grand Marché de Noël de Montréal, where you can enjoy one of the 30 chalets of local or regional craftsmen, musical and theatrical programming, and the sweet smell of mulled wine, among other delicacies. This year’s Montreal Christmas Village and Jean-Talon Christmas Market feature talented local artisans and delicious local products in a magical atmosphere. 

German Christmas Market (Québec City) – November 25 – December 23

With its colourful lights, traditional wooden kiosks, and free activities for the whole family, the Québec City German Christmas Market offers its visitors a unique and unforgettable experience. A few weeks before the holidays, everything is set up to recreate the festive and warm atmosphere of the major European Christmas markets, in the magical setting of Old Québec. Saskatchewan

Glow Saskatoon (Saskatoon) – December 2 – 28

The Enchanted Forest (Saskatoon) – November 19 – January 9

Saskatoon is proud of the BHP Enchanted Forest, one of the longest-running and most-beloved Christmas light shows in Canada, featuring 66 custom displays throughout the forest. Enjoy the light show from the comfort and safety of your own vehicle this year. The magic of the lights was experienced by a record-breaking 91,995 visitors this past season! 

Yukon

Twelve Days of Christmas Market (Whitehorse) – December 8 – 21

This market offers a festive, indoor experience for farm-gate style production and consumption of a wide selection of quality, Yukon handcrafted and grown items. Leisurely shop for that special gift from more than 100 vendors, find unique art and crafts, farm products, specialty foods, preserves, spices, baked goods, body products, photography, books, and much more.
