Tech Feature: AXIS Guardian Video Surveillance as a Service

Within the Security industry, Software as a Service (SaaS) is experiencing a surge in popularity, which is partly driven by the up front costs associated with storage needs of the significant amount of data that security devices generate.  This is most applicable to the realm of video surveillance.

Video Surveillance as a Service (VSaaS)

To address this, many security professionals are turning to video surveillance as a service (VSaaS).  VSaaS is a cloud-hosted security platform that allows users to remotely store, manage, and view surveillance footage for a monthly service fee.  Since all of the system management resides on the cloud, users are able to access their footage remotely from anywhere at any time through their computer, laptop, or mobile device.  Although VSaaS is a fairly new concept, one product that is leading the charge in this area is Guardian by AXIS Communications.

Video Recording & Storage

Traditionally, recording and storage of video footage is done through a Network Video Recorder (NVR).  An NVR is a dedicated computer system that records and stores the video footage that is captured.  NVRs also include a software program that will help the user manage, record, and display the video.  As an alternative, Axis Guardian is a cloud-based video surveillance subscription service that is hosted and managed by third party service providers.

AXIS Guardian eliminates the need to have a physical server or NVR at your building, thus reducing the up-front costs and removing the ongoing responsibilities that come along with maintaining a local server.

Services Provided
