Security Canada – International Security Conference & Expo Event Review

From October 24-25, 2018 the Fire Monitoring of Canada and Bulldog Fire and Security Teams attended the annual Security Canada – International Security Conference and Expo by CANASA at the Toronto Congress Centre.  Security Canada Central is the nation’s premier security trade show, featuring more than 160 exhibitors and is a must attend for security professionals.

Overview

Not only was there a massive exhibition of security professionals, but the show featured 20 presentations throughout the two-day event focusing on a variety of topics including Cybersecurity, Video Verification, Access and Gate Security, Monitoring, and much more!  The opening keynote address was made by the renowned expert in cyber security, David Shipley.  Shipley provided and in-depth review of cybersecurity and its role in government, military and private and public sector safety.

Video Surveillance and in particular, alarm verification was clearly a hot topic for the two-day conference.  Multiple educational sessions focused on various aspects of this including why it is becoming a focus in our communities, best practices, and exciting emerging technologies.

Highlights

There were so many incredible products, vendors, and new technologies to see at the event however, there were a few in particular that caught our eye.

We’ve written about Salto Access Control Systems in a past article, and we weren’t surprised to hear about the success they’ve been having over the past year.  We also got the scoop on the release of the new SVN-Flex product.  The SVN-Flex combines existing technologies in such a way that updated access rights can be passed wirelessly.

We were also quite impressed with the new camera line from AXIS Communications.  Axis is a leader in network cameras for the security and surveillance industry.  Their new AXIS Companion Line is a full video surveillance solution that is ideal for smaller system needs.  This is great for small business customers, and includes a Network Video Recorder (NVR) with built in Power Over Ethernet (POE), a free Video Management System (VMS), and a free app for IOS and Android.

Wrap Up

Overall, the Security Canada – International Security Conference and Expo by CANASA was an amazing event.  It was encouraging see so many great vendors and network with such a vast number of industry professionals all in one place.  We’re already looking forward to next year, and hope to see many familiar faces at the upcoming PM Expo November 28-30, 2018 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.  We will be exhibiting at this event; be sure to stop by and see us at booth 1801.
