How Beneficial is the PVC Coated Wire?

PVC is highly recommended for coating wires used in electrical products and appliances. PVC or polyvinyl chloride is extensively used as it can be softened through heating. It is extremely tough and capable of withstanding abrasion. It also comes with sufficiently high mechanical strength which is quite surprising since it is very low in weight. Pvc Coated Wire is preferred as it can withstand corrosion, abrasion, harmful effects of weathering and chemical degradation. These advantages have made it most suitable for appliances and products which are kept outdoors and which need longer shelf life.

Why should you use the PVC coated wire?
  • The PVC coated wire is extensively used for insulting cables, because it is known to be fire-resistant and easy to use. Incidentally, it can last longer than most modern buildings. The PVC will not conduct electricity and this makes it best suited for electrical applications. It is the common choice for wire and cable insulation and is likely to last nearly four decades.
  • The PVC coated wire is popular because it is very safe to use. It has gone through rigorous testing and research and it is seen that this type of wiring conforms to all global standards of security and health. It is almost completely non-toxic and not known to be damaging for the environment.
  • When the PVC is exposed to fire it will burn, but it extinguishes on its own when the ignition source is removed. It is hard to ignite this wiring and when ignited, it does not produce too much heat. It will typically char and not produce burning drops. So, danger of fire spreading is much less with the PVC coated wire.
  • The PVC coated wire is also easier to work with and easy to strip. The standard PVC wires which are mainly used for electrical wiring in households have 85 degree as maximum operating temperature. It is also not very costly to make and you will find that the PVC is more readily available than other natural resources. So, using PVC coated wire is actually quite cost-effective. You will not need to replace these very frequently. Neither do these require frequent repairing. So, the overall investments are much lower with PVC coated wiring.
  • The PVC coated wire is easy to use and light in weight which is why one can make it into different shapes. So, you can cut and reshape these; join or weld these as they are light in weight.
Just like the PVC wires, stranded wires are also popular for electrical products. The stranded wire is more expensive compared to a solid wire but it offers multiple benefits over the latter. The stranded wire is far more flexible and will need greater surface area which means low resistance compared to a solid conductor. The stranded wires are also known to have longer shelf life and this is beneficial because wires need to be stretched. The solid wire is simpler to use, less costly and quite durable. The solid wire will have one metal core whereas the stranded wire will have many thin wires which are twisted to produce a cohesive bunch. Stranded wires are better suited for intricate uses like circuit boards and electronic devices where wires may be protected but will have to go through a lot of bending and twisting.
