Scary Places To Visit In New Jersey

After talking about the most haunted places in New Jersey, we decided to make a list of the scariest places that you want to Visit in New Jersey. You can visit so many creepy cemeteries, abandoned buildings, homes that are haunted and locations that have ghoulish legends associated with them all throughout the state.

Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital

This is an abandoned building located in Parsippany. Just as the name implies, we are talking about a former asylum, which was opened in the year 1876. There were hundreds of patients that were housed here, sometimes as high as 7,500 at one time. One of the really famous patients was Woody Guthrie. He suffered from the dreaded Huntington’s disease. The building is French Renaissance and although the building is scheduled for demolition, it is definitely one location that is incredibly Scary.

Snake Hill

Located in Secaucus, we are talking about a location that was once a psychiatric hospital, penitentiary and almshouse, all together to a truly monstrous black rock that looms right over the Turnpike. Children in Hudson County have been scared for years by Snake Hills, a location that is said to house many snakes. In case you do not know, this is the inspiration for the world renowned The Rock.

Pine Barrens

This is a New Jersey location that is simply beautiful and that is mysterious at the same time. It is also really spooky with many dark woods, deep woods, a truly overwhelming silence and various trails that are said to lead towards doom. The location has been connected to devils, ghosts and even goblins. You will surely end up feeling scared when in the area, especially at night. Organize late night camping only if you do not scare easily.

Shades Of Death Road

Located in Warren County, this is the road that sounds scary right on when you are on it. The road is close to Hope town but hope seems to be far away when you are on this road. The name is connected with various legends. One of them says that a wildcats band killed and mutilated the residents that initially stayed in the area. While the scientific explanation that was discovered through historic documents was connected to malaria, legends still exist and are enough to scare you.

Devil’s Tree

Located in Bernards, on Mountain Road, this is a place where legend says that one farmer killed his kids and wife. After, he hanged himself from this tree. The legend claims that if you cut the tree, you die. It seems that there are many people that tried to cut the tree and eventually died. You can actually see many ax marks on the Devil’s Tree. Those marks are enough to send thrills on your back. If you do visit Warren County, make sure that you also consider visiting Camp Pahaquarry as it is also really scary.
