Cobb County Construction - 2 Miles of Trails Are On Its Way

Cobb County has always been viewed as a suburban county. With a population of about 741,000 residents, Cobb County is considered to be Georgia’s third most populated county. It’s known for being committed to vehicles as their primary form of transportation, which is a contrast with other neighboring counties, such as Fulton and North Fulton County. According to AJC Cobb County will be adding 2 miles of multiple use Trails. These trails will be created with the optimism of enhancing Cobb County’s pre-existing network, which in return will add to the county’s net-worth. These trails are an appealing aspect for visitors, residents and travelers alike. It has been discussed that the new trails will consist of 2.1 miles of cemented trails. They will be developed in Cumberland and will be a part of the second segment of the already existing Bob Callahan Trails Building these trails will cost roughly $6.2 million, according to AJC. It will be substantially financed by GDOT, with the help of Cumberland CID and Cobb County. The Cumberland Community Improvement District will be contributing just about $1.3 million, and Cobb County will be adding $400,000 to the project. The new segments will broaden the 3.6 miles of pre-existing trails beside the Chattahoochee River. They are said to provide link-ways to different routes, steering to the River Comet Trail, the Chattahoochee River Trail, Kennesaw Mountain, the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area in the Palisades Unit, and the Akers Mill Road East Trail. With the new segments providing link-ways to different paths, it can provide pedestrians different avenues to explore Cobb County. They are mostly being created for pedestrians and cyclists. These trails, will not change much of the aesthetic of Cobb County instead it will provide different ways of getting to certain areas of the trail. Since these trails will connect with multiple other pathways, they will provide hikers, cyclists, runners, and pedestrians a form of getting from one trail to another. Trees surround the already existing trails, waterfronts and nature and these trails will be no exception. They are said to have the same aesthetics that the others have, which will allow them to blend in seamlessly. The goal is to simultaneously combine the trails and provide pedestrians a new avenue to walk and explore. At 10 feet wide, the trails will be capable of providing space for both pedestrians and cyclists that are traveling from Interstate North Parkway to Terrell Mill Road. The trails will be spacious enough for many pedestrians to commute to their desired destination at the same time. The trail is expected to be completed by the end of 2017.
