For the last 9 years, this 32-year-old woman has been married to her 35-year-old Husband, and they have a little girl together who is 18-months-old.

When their Daughter started talking, she referred to herself as “Mama” and called her husband “Daddy” or “Dada.”

It was mostly around the 12-month mark when their daughter began learning words for the first time, and she would point to her husband and say, “Daddy” to her when she helped her understand.

“My husband would always give me what I thought was a dirty look when I would do that, but he never directly said anything, so I just assumed I was overthinking it,” she explained.

“But recently, our daughter has been more consistently referring to him as “Daddy,” and he flat out told me that it makes him uncomfortable, and (his exact words) “wished” I had “used more appropriate language when teaching her to speak.”

When he said this to her, she did not specifically ask what about that word makes her husband feel it’s not appropriate for their daughter to use.

She honestly was so shocked by his reaction that she didn’t think to question him further; she simply said she would stop referring to him with that word.

Thinking about it further, she says “Daddy” isn’t a word they use in the bedroom, so she finds it so bizarre that her husband is suddenly acting as if the word should only be used by adults.

“This is why I think it’s an issue now,” she said. “I already knew he was giving me dirty looks 6 months ago, but I, at the time, convinced myself he wasn’t. now he has directly told me, and I have absolutely no idea what to think of it and how to respond.”
