This 39-year-old man is currently a single father to his Daughter, who is 11. Tragically, when his daughter was just 2 years old, his wife passed away in an accident.

Since then, he has tried his best to keep his wife’s memory alive, especially for his daughter, who does not have many memories of her mother, given her young age at the time of the loss.

However, the grieving process has undoubtedly been tough for him, and he admitted to feeling like he has not entirely gotten over the death of his wife.

“It doesn’t dominate my mind space as it used to, and I can lead a fairly normal life,” he explained.

“But I don’t want to date anyone because I’m not ready or interested, and it’s not fair to date someone else if I’m not completely over my wife.”

His younger Sister, though, does not entirely agree. Apparently, she has been pushing him to get back into the dating pool ever since one year passed following his wife’s death.

His sister– who is three years younger than him– has even tried to introduce him to a couple of women over the years. And while he did not appreciate that at all, his sister just kept doing it.

“She says she is looking out for me, which I understand, but I wish she would just respect my wishes,” he said.

Last year, he started to become even more ticked off with his sister’s pressure, too, after she started to pass her perspective onto his daughter.

He claimed that his sister would ask pointed questions to his daughter, such as, “Don’t you want a mommy?” She would also make statements like, “You’re going to need a mom soon,” hinting about how his daughter will soon be hitting puberty.

For context, his sister is also in a happy marriage and has two kids– who his own daughter loves. So, over the past six months, his daughter has begun coming home from his sister’s house and asking why they can’t just have a “normal family” like her aunt.

“My heart pretty much broke at that point, and I started to question if I was being selfish,” he recalled.

But, after his sister visited his house just yesterday, he finally had enough.

While she was there, his daughter again brought up the topic of having a more “normal” family. At that point, he put his foot down and told his daughter that he wasn’t interested and did not want that.

Now, he realizes he spoke a bit harshly in retrospect since his daughter wound up bursting into tears. She even refused to speak to him afterward.

So, his sister freaked out on him and accused him of being a selfish jerk for putting his own needs above his daughter’s needs.

“I told my sister to please leave me alone, and she took that badly, too,” he added.

“She insisted on staying to ‘console’ my daughter.”

Anyway, he plans to apologize to his daughter for being harsh today. However, he also wants to make it clear to her that he simply is not interested in dating anyone at the moment.

And now, this has left him wondering whether telling his sister and his daughter to stay out of his love life really does make him a jerk or not.
