If you have any relatives with kids, you know how it can sometimes be hard to relax at family events when you have to keep an eye on the little ones.

One man recently upset his daughter after planning a new vacation for him and his Wife after she invited herself and her family to the first one. 

He and his wife recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary, and they always knew they’d love to celebrate it somewhere romantic. So, he booked a luxurious anniversary Trip for the two of them, something they had been planning for years. 

However, once their adult daughter, Jane, caught wind of where they’d be going, she took it upon herself to invite her husband and two kids, who are under 10 years old, on their trip to make it a family vacation.

“I originally put my foot down and told them this trip was just for us, which upset her some,” he explained.

“But my wife has a hard time saying no to Jane, as she is the youngest of our children and our only daughter, and she didn’t want to hurt her feelings, so she reluctantly agreed to let them join.”

He wasn’t thrilled about changing his anniversary trip plans, and he could tell his wife wasn’t either, but they both wanted to avoid causing drama, so they made accommodations for Jane and her family. The accommodations were more drastic than they thought, as their original destination was not child-friendly. 

So, they ended up having to book reservations at a family resort, and he ended up paying for everyone’s rooms and his grandchildren’s airfare.

As the trip grew closer, he began realizing more and more that he wanted to return to his original plan.

“I realized that our 40th anniversary was a once-in-a-lifetime milestone, and I wanted to honor it in a way that was true to our original plans,” he said.

“My wife and I might not be able to afford a trip like this again for quite some time, and it’s something we always wanted to do. So, without consulting anyone, I switched our tickets at the last minute to go to the romantic destination that my wife and I had originally planned for. I did not tell Jane or her husband.”

He decided to keep this a secret from his wife, too, and didn’t tell her about the switch up until the day before their flight, which was also the day before Jane and her family were set to leave for their “family vacation.”

He and his wife decided not to call and tell Jane about their changed plans until after they had landed at their romantic destination. While he felt pretty guilty, he knew this was the only way to guarantee their anniversary would be special, intimate, and just for them.

“We called Jane after we landed to tell her, and she was extremely upset, to say the least,” he recalled.

“She seemed [to have] the idea that we were going to look after our grandkids so she and her husband could have alone time, and now that I abandoned her, they would have to do it all themselves. I hung up on them when my son-in-law started shouting, and my wife and I enjoyed the rest of our trip.”

Since everyone has returned home from their respective vacations, he nor his wife have heard from Jane. Although he and his wife enjoyed their trip, she’s recently been telling him she would’ve been fine with a family vacation and thinks he should apologize so they can be on good terms with Jane again.
