These Are Some Of The Most Common Bedroom Decor Mistakes That Interior Designers Always Notice

There are countless small choices to make when it comes to Bedroom design, and each one of these decisions matters if you want to cultivate a pleasing, well-balanced aesthetic.

Have you been spending hours trying to style the perfect room, but for some reason, it just doesn’t look right no matter what you do?

Interior designers can walk into a bedroom and immediately point out what needs fixing. However, to the untrained eye, it can be hard to distinguish the problem.

The tiniest errors, such as lighting or a misplaced piece of furniture, can contribute to the issue. Once adjusted, the look and feel of your room will undergo a vast improvement. Sometimes, the changes can really be that simple.

Here are some of the most common Bedroom Decor Mistakes that professionals can spot right away. Avoid doing these things if you want a bedroom you can be proud to sleep in.

Ignoring The Lighting

Lighting can make all the difference in any space. In the bedroom, lighting is especially important because the goal is to create a calm, relaxing atmosphere.

Bad lighting can cause your room to appear dreary and uninviting. A bare bedroom ceiling is boring and sad. You should be playing around with lighting! Have some fun with it.

Statement chandeliers are becoming increasingly popular, adding a luxurious vibe and illuminating the entire room, while pendant lights hanging over bedside tables are a classic choice that combines style with function. Whatever fixtures you choose to install, make sure they produce soft, warm lighting to set the mood.

Not Considering Storage

When storage isn’t taken into consideration, items start to pile up and create clutter. Make the most out of your nightstands by adding decor that not only looks pretty but is also useful.

Instead of tossing your trinkets and jewelry about haphazardly, store them in a small bowl you can set atop your nightstand. You can even opt for nightstands with drawers or shelves to hold your books, phone charger, or other necessities.

Many people tend to run out of closet space, so dressers and wardrobes would help provide room for organization. If a wardrobe isn’t feasible, aim for under-the-bed storage or place a bench at the foot of your bed. A bench can offer additional seating and storage in your bedroom!

Going Overboard With Color

Be careful not to use too many bright colors. You want your bedroom to be a space you can retreat to when in need of peace and tranquility. So, keep the color palette on the neutral side. Taupes, creams, and off-whites paired with subtle pops of color like sage green, a muted blue, or pastel pink work beautifully in the bedroom.

Your color palette also includes textures and materials. Do you have gold or silver hardware? How many different types of wood are you incorporating? For instance, you don’t want white oak and dark walnut together. Colors and textures should stay consistent so they don’t clash and look out of place.

Failing to Style the Bed

The bed is always the focal point of the bedroom, so high-quality sheets and linens are worth the investment. Dress it up with pillows of different sizes, shapes, and fabrics. Just don’t overdo it with the cushions, as that can swallow up your bed.

A good rule of thumb is to limit the number of decorative pillows to a maximum of two and keep regular pillows to four.

Arranging some stuffed animals on the bed also creates a point of interest and adds a soothing, whimsical effect to the space.

Neglecting To Add A Rug

People often neglect to add a rug because they feel like it’s not really noticeable under the bed. However, rugs or carpets are essential for generating a cozy vibe that ties the whole room together. Before you pick one out, you should be aware that a bold, dark-colored rug can affect the color of your walls.

Also, consider scale. A rug that’s too big or small can make your space look strange. An area rug should leave about six inches of your floor uncovered on all sides.
