At the beginning of this year, this 52-year-old woman was shocked to receive a phone call from a 37-year-old woman named Amy, who explained that she had been carrying on an affair with her husband.

Amy had been seeing her 59-year-old husband, Ben, for years, and she had no idea that this had been happening behind her back.

She knew of Amy since they live in a tiny community and happen to all work in the same exact industry.

“I’m not sure what made her finally decide to come clean, but she wanted to meet in person to explain her side of the story,” she explained.

“When I refused, she showed up at our house and made a scene. I won’t get into all the sordid details, but the immediate aftermath was horrendous.”

“Ben and I are currently in therapy, and while we are still together, our future is uncertain at this point.”

She was humiliated to learn of the affair, but then Amy made things worse by publicly posting on Social Media about the affair.

Amy told her side of things in several different videos, and she has a decent amount of followers across many Social platforms.

She and Amy also know a lot of the same people, so word quickly got out around their town about the affair.

“Amy claimed that she was protecting the community, saying that Ben was a predator who used his position to take advantage of her, though she maintains the relationship was completely consensual,” she said.

“To be clear, we are relatively prominent figures where we live, and we own a successful business together. Amy described herself as a vulnerable, insecure woman who was swept away by a charming older man working in an industry she was trying to get ahead in.”

“He strung her along, told her he loved her, and played on her emotions. According to Ben, they hooked up a handful of times over the past three years, usually when they found themselves at an event together without me.”

Ben promises he was never emotionally intertwined with Amy; their relationship was purely physical, and he had been attempting to put space between him and Amy ever since Amy reached out to her.

She has no idea if Ben is telling the truth or if Amy is, and she believes she will never actually find out what the reality of the situation is.

Ben did let her look through his phone, and the messages between him and Amy seem to make his side of the story the truth, though she has no idea if he deleted some messages to further support his narrative.

At first, she was furious with Amy and didn’t really hold Ben accountable for his role, but now her emotions about the affair are all over the place, and she really doesn’t know how she feels about everything.

“After a flurry of scandal, people eventually lost interest in our dirty laundry, and Ben and I started the long process of deciding how to move forward,” she added.

“I blocked Amy everywhere, so I was not tempted to check in on her. Then, about 3 months ago, I suddenly received a barrage of notifications and direct messages on social media. I was horrified to see that they were from people I didn’t know accusing me of being behind a troll account that was viciously publicly attacking Amy online.”

“Making comments to the effect of her being…a liar, a homewrecker, not welcome in our town. This person had also combed through my social media and was posting pictures of me and Ben, saying that Amy would never have what we have. The troll was following just one other account: mine. Amy’s plethora of online friends had apparently concluded that “the wife” was the most likely suspect.”

She switched all of her social media accounts to private, but she was already embarrassed to have strangers on social media attacking her and calling her “ugly” and “old.”

These people also said there clearly was a reason Ben had felt the need to cheat on her, which only added to the hurt.

She decided to turn to one of her friends and ask them to try to help figure out who was stalking and harassing Amy.

It turns out that Amy has had this stalker since she went public with the affair, and it began with some mean texts sent from an anonymous number.

Amy did share screenshots of the texts on social media, and Amy also got a very threatening letter sent to her in the mail.

Whoever this stalker was, they had to be part of their town, and they had Amy’s home address and phone number.

Surprisingly, Amy then said on social media that she didn’t think the stalker was her, and she berated the people who had trolled her, too.

Everything seemed to calm down after Amy stood up for her online, and she attempted to move on with her life.

Several weeks later, she and Ben got a strange note from Amy’s boss about several emails he had been sent.

The emails were anonymously sent but seemed to suggest she had sent them all. The email address had her initials and Ben’s in it, too, and the sender’s name was the same as her first name.

Basically, the emails said people in the community were concerned about Amy’s boss keeping her employed at the company and that Amy’s boss should think about the concerns in having her work there.

Attached to the email were several steamy photos of Amy that Amy had actually posted on social media.

She and Ben told Amy’s boss these emails had not come from them and that they did not wish to hurt Amy’s job.

She and Ben then thought it would be a good idea to contact Amy, and Amy was actually appreciative to hear from the two of them.

They let Amy know that the emails sent to her boss had not been sent from them, and they also said they were happy to help if there was anything they could do for her on their side to resolve this. She and Ben had already talked about getting a private investigator and a lawyer involved.

“Amy asked if we would write a statement that she could post on social media saying that we did not condone this behavior, that we supported her as a member of the community, and that we wanted the person behind it to stop immediately,” she recalled.

“It struck me as an odd request, but it seemed harmless enough if it would help. Then Amy suggested that we all meet for dinner to figure out the details and to finally clear the air between us. I shut that down immediately.”

“I assume she’s looking for closure or forgiveness or something along those lines, and I am not at all interested in that. I’m sorry for what she’s going through, but I don’t like this woman, and I never will. I certainly don’t want to sit down with her and have dinner and drinks. The call went sideways from there and ended on a very strange and sour note. I drew a hard line with Ben that we were not going to be providing a statement or communicating with her directly in any way going forward, and he readily agreed.”

Unfortunately, things have only spiraled after those emails were sent to Amy’s boss. Someone then broke into Amy’s apartment and hacked into her social media account.

Amy did go to the police about the break-in, but there had been no evidence of forced entry, and none of her things had been missing; they had only been moved around.

The person who hacked into Amy’s account made one post containing a pet name that Ben called Amy, but only the two of them were aware of this name.

Amy was able to get her account back, but somehow, this stranger is still able to log into her accounts.

She can’t even begin to think of who is behind all of this, though this stalker is still trying to make everyone believe it is her.

“Amy is the obvious main target, but this unhinged person seems happy to have me as collateral damage,” she continued.

“Since our call, Amy has posted videos openly wondering whether Ben and I are indeed the perpetrators. She’s furious with us, saying that our only concern is for our own reputations and asking why we refuse to come out publicly and demand a stop to the harassment since if it’s not us, this person at least seems to be acting on our behalf.”

“She says it’s unfair that she is the only one suffering the consequences of the affair, a statement with which I wholeheartedly disagree. She hasn’t quite gone so far as to accuse me [specifically], but she has said that she thinks that Ben knows who’s behind it. He’s adamant that he doesn’t, and I believe him. My close friends have all been supportive, but I know that there are rumors circulating about me. My own social media is all still locked down because I get harassed by Amy’s friends any time she posts if I open it up.”

She is so angry with Ben for putting her in this kind of a crazy situation. She used to think she would do anything to save her marriage to Ben, but after the stalking, she wants to just leave him.

What makes her even more upset is that she does not want to let this stalker win and ruin her marriage for her.

She also isn’t sure that filing for divorce will allow her to walk away and move on with her life. She might still be sucked into it all. She’s just not sure how to move forward when this anonymous stalker is trying to all make them relive the affair over and over again.

“How much support do we owe to Amy?” she wondered. “I do not like her one bit, but I don’t think she deserves this treatment by a long shot, and it seems more and more like she might be in actual danger (besides the break-in, there was also an incident where she was followed by a van with darkened windows). We certainly have more resources available to us than she does, but I feel like every time she has an opening, she uses it to try to insert herself into our lives. She says in her videos that she still loves Ben despite all of this.”

“If this marriage (or even just my sanity) is going to survive, I feel there can’t be any further communication with her. Does keeping her at arm’s length make me look culpable for the harassment? And since Amy is the one with all the evidence, how can we investigate it on our end without her cooperation?”
