She’s Sick And Tired Of Babysitting For Her Sister For Free Because She Feels Like She’s Getting Taken Advantage Of

Since she was 15, this 18-year-old woman has been Babysitting for her Sister, 30.

In the beginning, she accepted her sister’s request because her sister was struggling financially.

Plus, her sister was also going through a divorce, had left her job, and was in the process of moving. She knew her sister was going through a lot and was aware of how terrible her sister’s ex was, so she was more than willing to lend a hand.

The arrangement worked out well early on. However, it quickly became stressful because she was attempting to juggle babysitting and her schoolwork.

She was homeschooled and did her classes on her computer. Not long into babysitting, she had problems in school.

“It became increasingly harder when I had to tend to a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old. I started falling behind in school and having all F’s,” she said.

Prior to this, she’d been a straight-A student. So, understandably, failing all her classes was heartbreaking for her. Most of the reason she had stellar grades was to make her parents proud.

When she got a B for the first time, her mother told her, “‘You should be disappointed in yourself.'”

Once she started failing classes, she felt sick to her stomach.

“Summers weren’t any better. I was stuck at home. I couldn’t hang out with friends, go places, get a summer job, or basically be a teenager. Because of all this, my anxiety and depression got worse, and slowly, I developed an eating disorder (something I’m still recovering from today),” she explained.

Because she was struggling with her mental health and her grades in school were suffering so much, she asked her sister if she could find someone else to babysit.

Unfortunately, her sister didn’t take this request very well. In response, her sister told her that she was self-centered because she knew that she needed the babysitting help, and she accused her of just not wanting to do it.

As a result, her sister made her feel like a bad person and, due to her guilt, she kept babysitting her sister’s children.

Over the last two years, she and her sister have had tension between them.

Now, her sister and her current boyfriend have bought a home together. Her sister has a job that allows her to be more financially stable than she’s been in the past.

“She is able to spend money on expensive purses and trips with her best friend. So, I figured it was time to ask if she could find a babysitter. I’m in my senior year, broke, and still stuck at home with two kids. And each time I mentioned it, I got the same answer: ‘I don’t have the money, or, ‘I’ll just quit my job, then,’ or something else to make me feel like a bad person,” she shared.

This is the final straw for her. While she doesn’t want to fight with her sister, she’s tired of being taken advantage of. She feels like a jerk for wanting to stop babysitting her sister’s children, but it’s been overwhelming for her for such a long time.

In the past, she has rejected her sister’s babysitting requests, but her sister has never taken her seriously.

Later, she had a talk with her parents, but nothing much came of it. Her mother pointed out that her sister needed her help and that she’d originally claimed that she wanted to babysit (which was true, but her feelings changed over time when her grades and mental health both went downhill). When she tried to express her views to her father, he just walked away from her.

She has now decided that she’s going to ask her grandfather if she can move in with him.

What would you have done if you were in her shoes?
