Here Are Five Ways To Cleanse Your Tarot Cards For A More Accurate And Refreshed Reading

Tarot readings can be a great tool for learning more about your past, your current self, and your relationships to better inform your future actions and behaviors.

However, did you know that tarot decks can accumulate both physical and emotional debris with every single reading?

Just like our minds, our energies are constantly changing and evolving. So, sometimes, the cards need a bit of a “refresh.” Since the decks are spiritual tools, they could hold onto previous intentions and energies.

For instance, if you conducted a reading last week when you were feeling a bit down, you wouldn’t want to bring that energy into your following reading. It might even make the outcome much less accurate.

There are other situations when deck cleansing is crucial, too, including when you first receive your deck and after someone else uses it. Think about it: you don’t want your cards to retain the energy of other people who might have handled it.

Finally, even if your deck just feels “off” some days, cleansing may be in order. The goal is to feel a connection to your deck, and if you have the slightest inkling that the connection has changed or feels wrong, then giving it a cleanse can never hurt.

There are tons of different ways you can choose to cleanse your tarot card deck, too, which makes the spiritual tool highly accessible to all different people. Simply pick one method below, reset your deck’s energy, and read away!

Tarot Deck Cleansing Methods

Many tarot lovers are also crystal connoisseurs. So, this method is a great way to cleanse your deck with what you already have on hand.

Certain crystals, such as selenite, are known for cleansing. But you can also use others, like clear quartz or rose quartz, to clear and rejuvenate your deck’s energy.

All you have to do is set your tarot card deck on top of a crystal. Conversely, you can set a crystal on top of the deck. Then, simply wait for the deck to absorb the energy, essentially “charging” itself, before use.

Another cleansing method involves the smoke of herbal incense, which doubles as a method for clearing the air and your mind.

You can pick any herbal incense that speaks to you, although lavender is a stellar choice since it is ruled by Mercury and is known for encouraging clear communication.

When you are ready to cleanse, just light your incense and allow the smoke to waft all over your deck. Your Tarot Cards and your nose will thank you.

Salt is also an extremely accessible and powerful cleansing tool. Just like salt has been used for thousands of years to disinfect wounds, the seasoning can likewise help release negative or unwanted energies from your card deck.

This method is great for when you feel like your deck is in need of a firm reset. Simply grab a bowl, fill it with sea salt crystals, and allow your tarot cards to sit in the bowl overnight.

Getting outside is another valuable way to realign both your spiritual energy, as well as the energy of your tarot deck. And it doesn’t matter if you choose to head out into the sunlight or bask in the moonlight.

During the day, you can sit in the fresh air and fan your cards under the sun. Vitamin D can boost your mental health and refresh your tarot deck.

Just be sure not to hang out in the sun with your cards for too long, though, to ensure they do not accidentally become bleached.

If you are more of a night person, that’s no problem, either. Just like crystals, tarot cards can also be recharged under the glow of the moon.

Check the forecast, set your tarot deck on a windowsill on the evening of a full moon, and allow the sky to work its magic.

Finally, one more cleansing method involves a habit that is standard practice before any tarot card readings: shuffling your deck. To feel more connected to your cards or get to know a new deck, you can lay out all of the cards in order. Then, just shuffle all of the cards together, and don’t be afraid to have fun with it!

This quick habit can serve as a brief “reboot” for your tarot card deck, allowing you and your deck to feel refreshed before going into any reading.
