There are so many parts that go into a wedding ceremony, but a fan favorite is the wedding cake! Now imagine if this important piece was nearly forgotten at your wedding.

Baker and TikTok creator Manni (@calgarycrumbs) shares a story about forgetting to make a client’s wedding cake and how she recovered.

Manni received a phone call from a bride wondering if her wedding cake was ready for pick up, but Manni had totally forgotten that she needed to have that cake done that day!

She quickly started to get things ready to rush through the process of getting this wedding cake ready.

“I have never felt so anxious in my life,” Manni expressed. “I rushed through the entire thing, like I made this cake within 2 hours, believe it or not, and that’s a record for me.”

When she got the call from the bride, Manni did her best to stay calm, not wanting to add any stress or worry to the bride’s plate.

Luckily, the cake sponges were already made prior, so that step was already complete. However, assembling and decorating a wedding cake is still no simple feat.

Manni quickly ran out to the store to get a couple of things that she needed in order to complete this cake.

She also had to make two different types of buttercream from scratch within the short amount of time that she had.

As she was initially stacking the cakes, the bride asked if she and her friends could come by and pick up the cake.

Manni started freaking out at this point but told her that they could come by. However, to save her a bit of time, she stalled for about 20 minutes before sharing her address with them.

After she was finished with stacking the cakes, Manni realized that she left out a crucial part; the flowers that the bride had asked for.

This realization tipped Manni over the edge into panic mode, swearing to herself that she would never make another wedding cake again.

Manni decided to send her husband out to the store in search of the flowers that she needed. While fresh sunflowers were nowhere to be found, he was able to find some fake ones.

“If she doesn’t pay for this cake, I would most definitely be okay with that because I rushed through the entire thing, and I ended up getting her synthetic sunflowers instead of fresh flowers,” Manni shared. “It was so disappointing.”

Next, she realizes that there were creases all around the sides of the cake all of a sudden. She had never had this happen before and was confused as to why it was happening now.

The only thing she could think of was maybe because of the buttercream being made too quickly.

Luckily, she found a way to fix it by dipping her metal spatula in hot water before using it to blur out the creases.

While stacking the iced cake layers, she noticed that you could see the cake boards in between the layers.

In order to fix this issue, Manni improvised using fondant to make a pearl-like ribbon going around the bases.

Finally, she added the flowers and finishing touches to the cake, and as she was doing so realized that the bride was waiting on her to send her the buzzer code to come upstairs.

After sending the bride the information, Manni quickly put the finished cake in the box and made sure it was all ready to be picked up. Although this was a stressful situation for Manni, it ended up paying off.

“Nonetheless, when she saw the cake, she absolutely loved it, and she said that she actually preferred synthetic sunflowers over the fresh ones,” Manni said.

We are all human, and we all make mistakes and become forgetful at times. Manni did an amazing job recovering and will surely avoid this stressful scenario again at all costs!
