Her Sister Is Accusing Her of Favoring Her Niece Over Nephew Since She Purchases More Presents For The Little Girl

This 23-year-old woman has two sisters named Mary, 32, and Jo, 35. Jo has a daughter, 5, and Mary has a son who’s 10-months-old.

Since her Niece turned 2 and her unique personality traits started forming, she and her niece have developed a close relationship.

Since this was when her niece started to communicate more, it was easier for her to have a bond with her and back-and-forth communication.

“I’ve always struggled with connecting to babies. It’s not that I dislike them; they’re just like cute, drunk little humans who can’t express their preferences, and I find it hard to interpret their needs,” she said.

Both of her sisters are well aware of her perspective.

While both of her sisters were pregnant, she made each of them personalized Gift baskets, spending a lot of money and time to gift them with things they would need for their babies.

Her goal was to do something heartfelt and memorable for each of her sisters during this important time in their lives.

Included in the gift baskets were clothes for both her sisters and their babies, heating pads, pregnancy massages, toys for their babies, memory books, baby formula, and diapers.

Her sister Jo loved and greatly appreciated these gifts and got a lot of use out of everything. Plus, her niece was able to use a lot of the items as well, and she was happy to see that her niece and Jo were able to gain wonderful memories through the gifts she gave them.

Unfortunately, Mary wasn’t as appreciative of the gift basket as Jo. Several weeks after receiving the gift basket, Mary ended up either throwing items away or giving them to other people.

“Her reasons? ‘She had too much already and could always purchase it again herself.’ I told her that I understood where she was coming from but that it would’ve been nice if she’d just appreciated it a little bit. All I got was a dismissive response, accompanied by her rolling her eyes,” she explained.

From then on, she didn’t put in effort to buy special gifts for Mary since she felt so disrespected.

While she, of course, loves both her niece and her nephew, she knows what her niece likes better than her nephew, so it’s easier for her to shop for her niece.

For two months after her nephew was born, she bought some useful gifts for Mary, but she stopped because Mary continued to be rude and unappreciative.

Since she knows how to stop gifts that her niece will enjoy, and since Jo is so much kinder to her, she constantly buys fun gifts for her niece.

Sometimes, they’re small gifts that she thinks are cute, like a sun hat. But she loves seeing how happy her niece is with these small gestures.

Several days ago, Mary caught on to the difference between how she was treating her niece and her nephew in regard to her gift-giving.

Mary talked to her about it, asking her to buy her nephew more gifts and give him more attention since they are sisters and he’s her nephew.

“At first, I just stood my ground, explaining that I wasn’t obligated to overspend on him since he’s still a baby and couldn’t fully understand it,” she shared.

Plus, she’s currently in college, so she has to spend her money wisely.

Then, Mary became even more frustrated and angry, claiming that she should have more love for her nephew than her niece, adding that it appeared that she showed love by giving gifts.

In response, she said that she shouldn’t have to buy gifts just because someone demanded that she do so. She also told Mary that she didn’t feel motivated to buy gifts for her because when she’s done so in the past, the gifts are often just thrown in the garbage or given away.

Since Mary didn’t appreciate or even keep her gifts in the first place, she felt like it wasn’t worth her money or time to keep buying her gifts. After this, Mary yelled at her in a rage. Once the fight was over, she left and went home.

Later, Mary gossiped to their mother about everything. Her mother reached out to her and urged her to say sorry to Mary, but she refused, telling her mother all about Mary’s horrible behavior toward her for so long.

Sadly, the only person in her family who is on her side now is Jo, who expressed that because it seems like Mary has always been their parents’ favorite child, Mary is under the assumption that the entire family is obligated to bend over backward to spoil her son, just like their parents spoiled her.

When she asked one of her friends for her thoughts, her friend agreed that she was right in this situation. Her friend said that she’s always noticed how unfairly her family has treated her over the years, and she said that she handled the whole ordeal maturely and with kindness by being honest with Mary and her mother about why she wasn’t buying her nephew gifts anymore.

Do you think she did the right thing by refusing to continue buying gifts for her nephew?
