Her Teen Son Is Upset That She Gave His Bedroom Away To Her New Foster Daughter, Even Though He’s Back At College Right Now

This woman and her husband have spent more than 10 years fostering children, and they currently have some little kids living at home as well as some older, adult kids who no longer live at home.

They have a biological son who is 12, an adopted son who is 8, an adopted son who is 5, and a foster son who is only 21-months-old, and all those kids currently live with them.

Their 22-year-old Foster Daughter still does live at home with them too, and their 19-year-old biological son came home for the summer after completing his first year of college.

A few weeks back, she and her husband were asked if they could take 5 foster kids in an emergency.

She and her husband did only have two extra bedrooms for the kids, but they had beds in storage to make accommodations for all of them.

They decided to place the 17, 12, and 7-year-old girls in one bedroom while they placed the 10 and 6-year-old boys in another room.

“It now looks like we are going to be fostering the 5 of them for considerably longer than we thought when they were placed with us,” she explained.

“Because of the large age gaps between the girls, having them share more long term isn’t really ideal.”

They then decided to rearrange all the boys in their home to give the 17-year-old girl her own bedroom.

Then, a couple of days ago, her 19-year-old son went back to college for the fall, and she and her husband talked about making his bedroom work for their new 12-year-old foster daughter.

They thought it would be best for this little girl to have her own bedroom and not have to share with her youngest sister.

She and her husband did then speak to her son about the arrangement, and he said he was ok with it, though he was not thrilled in the least.

“However, before he left back for college a few days ago, he got into an argument with my husband, complaining it’s unfair he’s lost his room and that he has nowhere to go when he comes back home now,” she said.

“My other adult son also contacted me about the situation to essentially tell me it was a bad idea and that his brother is really upset and just because he’s been away for college a year doesn’t mean he is ready to lose his spot in the house.”

“Last year, we didn’t need the extra space, so his room stayed empty when he was at college. This year it makes no sense to leave a bedroom empty and to make 2 girls 5 years apart in age share a room.”

She would never tell her teen son that he’s no longer welcome to come home, and if something happens and he no longer wants to go to college, she is prepared to rearrange all the kids once more so he can have his own space.

She doesn’t want her son losing his own bedroom to be a permanent thing, and they usually do not have this number of foster children living with them.

She and her husband do occasionally have their other kids and grandkids stay over, and they all are comfortable sleeping on an air mattress in the living room or in one of the bedrooms, so she expects her teen son to just go along with this program for the time being.

“He will most likely have his room back by next summer, and if not, we will figure out solutions then,” she continued.

“I have explained all this to him, but he’s not hearing me…I’ve bought new décor etc., for the room and plan on decorating and moving our foster daughter in tomorrow.”

Do you think it was wrong of her to give her son’s bedroom away to her new foster daughter?
