Her Stepsister Kept Forgetting To Turn The Stove Off After Cooking And Nearly Burned Their Apartment Down Twice, So She Put Child-Proof Locks On The Stove So Her Stepsister Can No Longer Use It

This 19-year-old woman currently lives with her Stepsister Nicole, who is 20, in a little two-bedroom apartment while they both go to the same college.

She and Nicole have known each other for about 11 years, ever since her dad got married to Nicole’s mother.

So, they have spent a lot of time together over the past decade, and even though they don’t always get along, she claimed that they both consider each other sisters.

That’s why after she and Nicole both got sick and tired of living in college dorms, they decided to just move in together about two months ago.

After taking that leap and becoming roommates, though, she realized there was one major problem with her stepsister.

Apparently, back at home, Nicole never really cooked for herself aside from heating up some microwavable meals. But since they are now living independently, Nicole decided to really try out cooking for the first time.

Whenever her stepsister is done using the oven or Stove, though, she often forgets to turn the appliances off afterward. And obviously, that is seriously dangerous.

“At one point, this nearly caused a full-blown house fire when Nicole forgot about the stove while a paper plate of hers had been left on top of it,” she revealed.

So, she kept trying to gently remind her stepsister to turn off the oven and stove after she was done cooking. For whatever reason, though, Nicole just never seemed to listen.

This forced her to start putting sticky notes all over the kitchen in an effort to remind her stepsister.

But eventually, Nicole started getting really frustrated by the constant reminders, and she got accused of treating her stepsister like a child.

At that point, she apologized for coming off that way but reiterated how important it was for Nicole to remember to turn everything off.

Still, in spite of this conversation, the same problem just kept happening. Then, they almost experienced a second house fire after Nicole left the stove on, started blasting music through her Airpods, and did not hear the smoke alarm going off.

So, she tried to have one last discussion with Nicole– telling her stepsister that her dangerous kitchen habits needed to stop.

This still did not get through to her stepsister, though, and Nicole just got angry at her again.

“Before I could even suggest anything, she told me to get off her case,” she recalled.

“Nicole said I’m overreacting and that she ‘can handle it.'”

Her stepsister also refused to listen to any of her suggestions and just kept talking over her. And honestly, that only made her more anxious about what would happen while she was out and Nicole was at home.

So, she decided to go one step further and purchase some plastic child locks for the stove.

She knew that Nicole was unable to open any child-proofed items. So, once she put the locks on the stove knobs, she felt better knowing that Nicole would not be able to use the appliances and risk burning the house down when she wasn’t home.

She also pointed out how she and Nicole have very similar class schedules– meaning that she didn’t think the locks would inconvenience her stepsister too much.

Once Nicole actually found out about the child-proof stove locks, though, her stepsister went crazy. Apparently, Nicole screamed at her, called her a control freak, and accused her of being a bully.

She did not back down, though, and screamed back at her stepsister– telling Nicole that she would not have had to do that if the kitchen appliances had been used responsibly.

After that, Nicole wound up just calling her a jerk and claiming she had no business controlling when other people get to cook.

Then, her stepsister actually blocked her number and went to go stay at a friend’s house.

Her father and stepmother have since heard about what happened from Nicole, too. And they have not stopped messaging her and telling her that she needs to get her stepsister to come home.

So now, she has been left wondering whether putting child-proof locks on the stove to keep Nicole from starting a fire was the wrong thing to do or not.

Can you believe her 20-year-old stepsister cannot figure out how to open child-proofed locks? Regardless, did she have a right to be concerned about Nicole cooking when she wasn’t home? Why do you think her stepsister cannot remember to turn the appliances off? Would you have done the same thing if you were in her shoes?
