Tiger Woods’ Niece, Cheyenne Hicks, Is Also A Successful Pro Golfer Who Hopes To Increase The Sports’ Accessibility To Young Girls Throughout The U.S.

Even if you despise golf, you definitely know the name “Tiger Woods.” The golfing legend has a wildly impressive resume– having won five Masters Tournaments, four PGA Championships, three U.S. Open Championships, and three British Open Championships.

Tiger also became the first golfer to ever hold all four professional major championship titles at one time and has accrued a net worth of over 1.1 billion dollars. That is a lot of golf balls.

Now, at forty-seven years old, the star has made it clear that he does not plan to retire. However, he did admit that he would not be playing a full schedule like he used to.

“That’s just my reality. I don’t like it, but I just have to accept it,” Tiger told Sky Sports in December.

So, with the golf legend reeling it back on the course, the public now has to keep an eye out for his up-and-coming half-niece, Cheyenne Hicks.

First of all, the thirty-two-year-old is quite a successful golfer and started from pretty humble beginnings.

“I played college golf for four years, then I turned pro, played for a year and a half, and finally got my LPGA card. It has gone the way it should have,” Cheyenne said in an interview with Refinery29.

Then, in 2014, she stole her first professional win while competing in the Australian Ladies Masters– which gave Cheyenne a serious dose of confidence.

“It was on the European Tour on the Gold Coast of Australia, and for me, that was real validation. It was a confidence boost,” she said.

Aside from killing it on the green, though, Cheyenne also has much bigger goals to achieve– many of which have to do with increasing the accessibility of golf in communities throughout the country.

She detailed how as a child, she grew up middle class and had a hard time affording golf. Moreover, she discussed how golf is not accessible in many schools– something that she hopes to change.

“I think it would be good to see it in local schools– to teach kids that you have opportunities other than basketball, track, and football,” Cheyenne explained.

Thankfully, Girls Golf– created by LPGA and USGA– is spearheading this effort. Girls Golf is “the only national junior golf program that specializes in providing girl-friendly environments for juniors to learn the game of golf.”

The organization has five hundred sites throughout the nation dedicated to preparing girls between the ages of six and seventeen to start their golf journeys.

And according to Cheyenne, the organization is also making waves in increasing golf’s accessibility for young Black women.

“Girls Golf is coming up with a grant that will be supporting Black girls playing golf and helping them gain access to the sport. And I think that’s what it truly takes,” she said during an appearance on USA Today’s podcast “Changing the Game.”

“Let’s specifically try to get Black girls into the game and support them financially. Give them a space where they can come in.”

Don’t get me wrong, though: Cheyenne also has other interests aside from golf and sports as a whole. In fact, she has even worked as a reporter, a television analyst, and a podcaster.

This career expansion came during the COVID-19 pandemic when she was forced to pivot her day-to-day, much like the rest of the country. So, she recalled just “pressing pause” and finding other outlets that fulfilled her when golf was not there.

Finally, on top of being a golf star and media trailblazer, Cheyenne also recently tied the knot with New York Yankees Center Fielder Aaron Hicks this past February. Then, on April 26th of last year, the couple welcomed a baby boy named Cameron Jaxson Hicks.

“We finally got to meet our little guy,” the new mom said on Instagram, alongside an adorable photo of Cheyenne holding her newborn.

Now, Cameron appears to be growing bigger by the day, and Cheyenne expressed how she could not be more thankful for her budding family.

“Grateful for the memories made with this little family of ours this year. 2022 was a year that changed my life forever. These guys are my everything,” she wrote just a few days before the new year.
