Mattel’s SDCC Exclusives Include Suicide Squad Goodies and These Other Awesome Toys

We’re pretty sure Mattel already won SDCC with that awesome Wonder Woman Barbie, but what’s the harm in pouring it on? They’ve released their full line of Comic-con exclusives, with DC getting even more love with some solid Suicide Squad merch along with a pretty eclectic assortment of other comic book and video game figurines and, yep, Hot Wheels.

With Suicide Squad arriving in theaters this August, the movie should figure heavily into this year’s con. For their part, Mattel has a two-pack of 6″ figurines of the Joker and Panda Man based on their appearances in the movie. Well, we wouldn’t quite say the Joker looks like Jared Leto, but the mismatched clothes and the purple trench coat look about right. Panda Man has what looks like a Tommy gun and ‘friends forever’ written in a heart on his panda suit, so that checks out. On the Hot Wheels side, there’s a Harley Quinn car based on her personality and preferred color scheme (looks like it’s based more on the classic Harley Quinn than the one in the movie). Best of all might be a 12″ Katana doll that comes with one of the largest assortments of weapons we’ve ever seen for a doll — a katana, four shuriken, two sai, a sheathed tanto, and a naginata. She has three interchangeable hand pieces to suit anything in that arsenal.

More Hot Wheels can be found in a two-pack of character cars based on Daredevil and the Punisher. The other Hot Wheels exclusive is from Star Trek, but this one’s a bit more grounded in reality. When the Trek dollars started coming in back in the day, Leonard Nimoy got himself a ’64 Buick Riviera and posed with it in Starfleet uniform. That car has been recreated as a figurine, with Nimoy dressed as Spock standing in front of it. It comes on a display stand with the Star Trek 50th Anniversary logo on the front.

The rest of the collection is a wonderful collection of the unexpected, which is to say that the ThunderCats are involved — specifically, 4″ figurines of Wilykat and Wilykat on their hovering Space Boards, which sadly are forced to hover on clear plastic stands. There are two sets of Lego-style buildable Kubros figurines from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, with Leonardo facing off against Bebop and Michelangelo taking on Rocksteady, as it will be in this summer’s movie (other turtles may assist).

The SDCC exclusive roster is rounded out by a 6″ Halo Spartan Helioskrill figurine and an elite 6″ Shockmaster figurine, based on the WWE wrestler. Prices range from $20 to $60, and everything will be available for preorder ahead of SDCC on June 17 at MattyCollector.com.
