A 25-Year-Old Indiana Resident Sustained Severe Injuries After Heroically Saving 5 Children From A House Fire

Lafayette, Indiana, resident Nick Bostic was driving down Union Street just after midnight when he noticed fire billowing from a neighboring home.

According to the Lafayette Police Department, the twenty-five-year-old did not waste any time and instantly jumped into action.

“He immediately stopped in the roadway, threw his car in reverse, turned around, and pulled into the driveway,” the Department said in a press release posted to Twitter.

“He could not call 911 and did not want to waste time trying to find someone who could call it in. He knew he had to act.”

Bostic made his way to the back of the home and entered through a back door. He started to yell in hopes of alerting anyone inside and, after receiving no response, considering that the family may have already evacuated.

Still, he did not want to leave it up to chance and forged inside the burning home. There, Bostic found four sleeping children ranging from age one to eighteen.

Their parents were not home at the time of the fire. He quickly woke them before evacuating everyone to the road.

Once outside, though, Bostic learned that a six-year-old girl was left behind inside. Again, he plunged into the house and began rapidly searching for the girl.

“He frantically searched the rooms, even looking under the beds, but it was to no avail– he could not find the child,” the Department explained.

And just as Bostic went to venture downstairs, a massive cloud of smoke prevented him. At that moment, he miraculously heard the sound of a child’s cry from the home’s lower level.

Bostic took off his shirt and wrapped it around his mouth and nose to protect against the smoke. Then, he went through the flames in search of the girl.

Eventually, Bostic located her. But, with the fire quickly gaining momentum, he could no longer reach the back door.

So, he picked up the child, ran upstairs, and located a second-story window.

“He jumped from the window, ensuring he landed on the side where he was not holding the child. He picked himself up off the ground and carried the girl to safety,” the Department said.

Miraculously, all of the children sustained little to no injuries. Bostic, though, Sustained Severe Injuries and was airlifted to Eskenazi Hospital.

The press release detailing Bostic’s heroic efforts and recently released body cam footage showing a portion of the rescue have blown away the Indiana community.

The young man’s selflessness and courage will now be recognized by the Lafayette Police Department, the Lafayette Fire Department, and Mayor Tony Roswarski during the Aviators game on August 2.

And while Bostic is now in stable condition, his family and friends are asking the community to help cover his medical costs through a GoFundMe campaign.

Since word of Bostic’s heroism has spread throughout the country, his fundraiser has surpassed its initial goal of fifty thousand dollars.

Now,  just over sixty-two thousand dollars have been raised by over one thousand and five hundred donors.

“Those girls are here today because of you. Thank you for being so selfless in a terrifying situation,” wrote one donor.

“You are an amazing human being, and I cannot express to you the level of admiration I have for your bravery. I wish you only the very best things in life,” shared a second donor.
