What Tractor Manual Do I Need (part 1)

This is the question I get asked every single day. Hardest thing about answering that is not coming up with some smart-alecky answer. Like a bad David Letterman impersonation:

Top Ten Questions Indicating You Need a Service Manual!

10) My Tractor won’t start, how come?
9) Is there anything special you need to do if your tractor falls in a lake?
8) My tractor finally stopped leaking…and running!
7) What do all those lights mean on the dash?
6) Is it supposed to smoke that much?
5) you get the idea, so let’s skip to the number one question that makes it clear you need a Service Manual!

1) They want how much per hour to fix my old tractor!!??

Now let’s clear up some confusion, some people call it a Service manual, some call it a shop manual, others will use the term repair manual. It is all the same thing, the manual that tells you how to fix the tractor.

Our FAQ page states: The tractor service manual tells you how to take the tractor apart, how to fix it, and how to put it back together again. It is the manual that the factory furnished the dealer’s shop service department, and was not sent or given to individual retail customers. These are authentic Manuals that deal with repairs in the language of a mechanic. Often times they include valuable information such as specifications, torques, codes, etc. If you are in the serious tractor repair or tractor restoration business, you need the shop service manual. It can give you many short cuts and save you a lot of time.

Sometimes we even have a couple flavors of these manuals. We first recommend getting the factory Service manual, since it is the most complete manual and it was written by the folks that made the beast. For the more popular tractors we may also have an I&T manual available, which is a shorter version for those folks that are more experienced and don’t need all the details. Either way, having the manual will save you time, money, and in the case of guys like Roger Welsch, some skin on your knuckles!

Since you found your way to this blog, you probably already know that Jensales maintains the world’s largest and best library of technical manuals for tractors, industrial equipment, and implements. Most of the manuals are Service manuals, but we also have Operator’s manuals, and Parts manuals.

I will cover those in the next two installments. Yes that is a cheap ploy to keep you checking back for the latest in tractor news, deals, and goofy pix. Let me know next week if it worked!
