Alumide is a blend of nylon and aluminum powder. Its use via a 12-gauge Shotgun shell in a pointed needle design is up for evaluation.
The custom shotgun shell testers at Taofledermaus run the gamut with several slugs printed by Michael Yeh based on the profile of a “pen shank” that he invented.
On the plus side, they are pretty strong. On the downside when it comes to shotgun projectiles, the nylon and aluminum blend is also pretty lightweight, tipping the scales at just 4 grams (0.14-ounces). For comparison, a standard U.S. nickel weighs 5 grams.
In testing, though, the needle can best be described as the “keyhole express.”
