What Is the V5C?
Your vehicles V5C Registration Certificate is the linking document between yourself and the Dvla and holds key information on your Vehicle including its registration date, manufacturer, colour and engine size. The V5C also details the vehicles Registered Keeper who is responsible for its tax and other associated payments.
Collection Day – What to do?
On your chosen day of collection, it is important that you carry out the following steps;
Remove Section 9 (The Yellow Section) of the V5C – Section 4 in newer Registration Certificates
Submit your signature and the date within the Registered Keeper section
Ask the Collection Agent to submit their Business Name and Business Address
Pass on your vehicles V5C documents to the Collection Agent
Post Section 9 to the DVLA to inform them you are no longer the Registered Keeper
This is the most important process throughout the donation of your vehicle as you might still be liable for the vehicle’s associated expenses including tax, speeding fines and parking tickets.
You can also choose to notify the DVLA online by following a similar process. You will still require the Collection Agents Business Name and Business Address as well as your V5C’s 11-digit Document Reference Number.
What Next?
Scrap – if the best option to raise the most amount for your charity is to have your vehicle recycled by one of our partnered Authorised Treatment Facilities, your vehicle will be issued with a Certificate of Destruction to confirm its end of life. If you wish to have a copy of the vehicle’s Certificate of Destruction, please contact Giveacar. The DVLA is automatically notified when your vehicle is scrapped, you therefore have nothing else to do beyond the point of mailing Section 9 to the DVLA.
Auction – so long as you complete the Section 9 process you will receive no further documentation from the DVLA. The only remaining documentation you will receive will be an email from Giveacar to confirm how much was raised for your charity.
I Can’t Find my V5C

Do I Need my V5C to Donate?
It is preferable that you submit your vehicles V5C documents when you donate it, however if you are unable to do so you can still donate.
Upon collection, you will need to provide keys for the vehicle, another proof of ownership along with a form of identification that will be copied to confirm yourself as the registered keeper. This is in line with GDPR regulations.
When your vehicle is collected it goes to our seller’s account, therefore Giveacar becomes liable for your vehicle.
