Sullivan’s Island Home with Lots of History…

This magnificent five bedroom, five bath House has over 7,300 square feet, sits on over a half acre of land and located in the Fort Moultrie Historic District. Are you ready for the “kicker”??? It was built in 1901 and served as the original Commandant’s Quarters in 1933. It was housed by George Catlett Marshall, whose has a list of credentials longer than a country mile! They include: Chief of Staff (During WWII), Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, and received the Nobel Peace Prize. He is also credited as the creator of the Marshall Plan for the reconstruction of Europe after WWII. George Catlett Marshall doesn’t come with the house so let’s move on...

1702 I’on has all the ol’southern charm but has been brought up to date with four major renovations since 1993. The house has two levels of large wrap around porches with plenty of room for rocking chairs or porch swings. On the backside of the house you can enjoy a screened in porch perfect for dining with family and friends. You can even open up the doors leading to the screened porch and enjoy the breeze. Other features include pressed metal ceilings (some original tin!), remodeled kitchen, remodeled bathrooms, new roofing, copper gutters, and HVAC with seven separate zones. The hardware is original and refurbished, constructed of cypress and heart of pine. Slate roof over the main house and copper roofs over the porches. Did I mention the house has seven fireplaces? Probably not, but it does...so get the firewood ready!

Here’s a couple fun facts...This house is the tallest structure on Sullivan’s Island (other than the lighthouse) and also has the Oldest Live Oak tree on the island! Sullivan’s Island also has a lot of history behind it which you can read more about here.

Just think, if you bought this house with all the history, being the tallest structure, and having the oldest live oak on the island...you could probably charge admission and pay off the mortgage in no time! Although you might notice a fast decline in your friends and family coming to visit… If you’d like some more free money making advice...or would like to see this house or any others in Charleston, then contact the SC Property Pros.
