Directionally Drilled Natural Gas pipelines are often challenged with concerns of coating damage from the abrasion of pull back. Girth welds require a field applied coating where the bond strength is less than that of the factory applied coatings and the raised height of the weld becomes a target for damage. Repairing coating damage is often costly; excavation costs alone can put a project well over budget.
