Google adds Brands, Stores and Types to SERPS

I guess there isn’t one week without Google rolling out a new feature. Starting this week, you should start seeing links for Brands, Stores and Types at the top of your search result page when looking for a product.

For example, if you’re looking for a digital Camera, you can see 5 links for camera brands, 5 links for stores where you can buy cameras and 5 links for popular types of digital cameras (waterproof, compact, etc …).

One one hand this is quite a useful feature that should help you with searches, at least when you are in an early stage of the buying circle looking for information but, on the other hand, this looks like it will mostly emphasize big brands and stores that are already omnipresent in organic and paid results, thus undermining the influence of smaller e-commerce sites and brands.

If you’re in a small niche, it might however be beneficial to your store or brand, so make sure you keep your SEO on track as it might help you win on of these much-coveted spots on the first page of Google …
