Engineering an Historical Ship Model

A number of design projects are in the works, including HMS Indefatigable and the USS Niagara.

HMS Indefatigable is to be Built as a Frigate, not as the 64 gun ship-of-the-line she originally was. The model of her will be after she'd been cut-down to a frigate (1794) and as she must have looked under the command of Sir Edward Pellew. Her top-deck removed among other things. She should make for a fairly "fat" but hopefully beautiful frigate! Her CAD design as a 44 gun frigate is shown below in red, over top her drawing as a 64 third-rate.
Notice also the poop deck/cabin space was shortened to be aft of the mizzen-mast, as per Pellew's request. Pretty well everything they could retain, they kept unchanged: gun-port locations, length of hull, mast locations etc.

The form of the quarter and stern gallery was altered slightly, the location and size of the windows stayed the same. The bulwarks were 'straightened' to remove the extreme 'tumble-home' remaining from the top-deck removal. Since the beak had to be dropped, the Angle of the bowsprit changed to a lesser angle. Her draft also decreased slightly and her 'bumper' wale was lowered accordingly.  That would have given her a bit more freeboard, always a good thing.

Her build is on the way, she is being built in cherry, mahogany and maple.

I should have some more images of her progress soon!
