Project Morgan 384

This  project entailed creating a true-scale version of the owners Morgan 384 including her custom features such as wooden storage boxes, wind-turbine, life-raft etc.  An image of the resulting Model, complete with sails and rigging is shown below.

I always start with gathering as much information as I can about the boat. Often, as was the case here, drawing information such as lines and deck-layout are hard to come by. The owner did provide some sketches found in the user-manual and a good selection of images of the actual boat. Armed with this information, a CAD model was created and, after a few iterations, the final design came together

The hull was created in cherry-wood, and was epoxy coated to create a resilient and strong hull which will last for ... well ... a very VERY long time. I don't like using plastics since something made from plastic generally looks like it's made from plastic. Many very detailed models still look like toys for exactly that reason.
This particular boat, the Morgan 384 came with a lot of teak trim, care was taken to replicate the trim and most other features as faithfully as possible at scale.  If a detail is too small to 'look good', I generally omit the detail. I'd rather create a 'clean' good looking model than to foul things up with minuscule distracting detail. Having said all that, some of the detail that does go on is pretty small.
The rigging, masts and other details such as the anchor and stanchions were created, metal being used for many of those items. Again, no plastics! The final result is shown below, just before shipping to the client!
