Lowe’s Launched a Video Chat Tool for Professionals to “Visit” Clients

Even with social distancing measures relaxing, retailers are getting creative to develop ways to keep their client base and ensure that everyone receives the service they need. One of the most recent examples is Lowe’s, which launched a video chat Tool specifically for professionals to help clients.

How It Works

The video chat tool uses Augmented Reality and is called Lowe’s for Pros JobSIGHT. The service was developed in partnership with Streem, a machine learning and AR computer vision development company.

Professionals can use any web browser on a mobile device with the tool. It features augmented reality quick-draw tools and an on-screen laser pointer. The idea is that the program will let professionals help customers in virtual consultations, and guide them so they can complete simple repairs.

Following consultations, staffers will be able to review one-page summaries that include high-resolution photos, notes, audio, and full video of the session. This information can help to answer any follow-up questions.

The service will be entirely free for members of the loyalty program until October 31.

The Reasons

Lowe’s and Streem decided to make this tool due to the needs of professionals and consumers to provide essential home services safely. The tool uses Streem’s proprietary technology to give professionals the ability to have contactless, thorough, efficient, and convenient consultations that benefit them and consumers.

Future Plans

Lowe’s plans on continuing to expand the tools that it offers to professional clients. According to the Pro Sales and Services vice president, Fred Stokes, the company’s expansion of offerings will focus on partnerships and services to help grow and run businesses.

Other Companies Also Invest in AR

Lowe’s is far from the only major retailer investing heavily in augmented reality to improve its offerings. Coresight Research estimated in May that the AR technology market could hit $18.8 billion this year. Some of the other retailers investing in augmented reality, visual artificial intelligence, or virtual reality tools to improve customer experience include Asos, Shopify, Kendra Scott jewelry brand, and Ingka Group, the Ikea owner.

This is a timely investment as Apptopia research recently found that the coronavirus pandemic has led to an increase in downloads for applications from Menards, Lowe’s, and Home Depot. Additionally, both Lowe’s and Home Depot experienced increased sales in the first quarter, showing that their strategies are on the right track.
