As various states around the country begin to reopen, major retailers are making plans on how to open their stores safely. Nordstrom has already shared some of its plans with the rest of us, so we can anticipate some of the precautions and changes that we will notice.

Gradual Reopening

One of the most essential precautions Nordstrom will take is not to reopen all of the stores at once. There are 380 stores operated by Nordstrom, including Nordstrom Rack locations.

Adjustments and Precautions

Physical Changes

Unsurprisingly, the interior of Nordstrom will have several visually-apparent changes to help with safety concerns.

Some of the fitting rooms will be closed to allow for improved social distancing and reduce the surfaces that customers come into contact with. The fitting rooms will also be cleaned between uses. Additionally, if any item is tried on or returned, Nordstrom will hold it for some time before returning it to the rack.

Registers will feature plexiglass dividers to keep customers and employees safe. These dividers will be cleaned between every shopper.

Service Changes

There will also be some changes that are less obvious as they involve services instead of physical changes. One of these will be additional curbside pickup options, minimizing the number of people who come into the stores. This is an already-popular feature that the retailer offers, but it will be expanded. There will also be new parking spaces outside certain stores for returns.

With regard to the number of people in stores, there will be a limit to how many are allowed inside at once. The store will also no longer accept cash, at least temporarily. Nordstrom will also be reducing its store hours and using that extra time for additional cleaning. All employees will receive face coverings, and the company will keep some employees by the door to pass out masks to customers who do not have them.

Many of the personalized services that Nordstrom is known for, including personal styling and alterations, will be on hold for the time being. Nordstrom will still, however, offer virtual styling appointments. There will also be no brow shaping, bra fitting, and beauty makeover services.

Food and Drinks

Those interested in the food and drink options at Nordstrom will notice mixed changes. Ebar coffee shops will be reopening with precautions. Some but not all restaurants will resume their operations as well, as this will be done on a case-to-case basis.
