Scott Hamlin, former Adidas Executive, is the mastermind behind making the ultra-green move of turning excess jersey fabric into Upcycled Merchandise. He told CNBC that he’s worked with Royal Robbins, Jockey, and Adidas and saw the ton of waste from fabric manufacturing.

He founded Looptworks, which turns excess textiles into products such as clothing, accessories and bags. In one interview, Hamlin said, “I looked around and thought it’s the chance to bring meaningful change to an industry that’s antiquated. Now he works with companies like the National Basketball Association and Fortune 500 companies. He was even approached by some to create products for the ‘green games’ by the Portland Trailblazers.
The NBA is following the lead and has thousands of excess jerseys. Each time a trade is made, a sponsorship is changed, or someone retires, there is a jersey that can no longer be on the market. With the NBA switching from Adidas to Nike, there will be thousands of Jerseys that can’t hit the market.
The business model is growing nicely and gaining partners such as Patagonia and airlines. Upcycling has continued to gain followers, with increased partner perspectives and customer base. Companies that are becoming waste-conscious use Looptworks for product creation.
