Nordstrom Is Launching a Resale Shop

Nordstrom is expanding its offerings to include a new Resale Shop called “See You Tomorrow.” This resale shop will be available online and at the flagship store in New York City.

What to Expect From the Resale Store

The vice president of creative projects, Olivia Kim, will curate this apparel resale shop. It will feature men’s, women’s, and children’s apparel. Also, the store will have shoes, accessories, handbags, watches, and jewelry. There will also be exclusive partnerships with brands. The first of these is with Ganni, a contemporary fashion brand based in Copenhagen.

The Stock

Some of the stock found in this store will come from the Nordstrom Quality Center after being cleaned, refurbished, and repaired. This is where Nordstrom processes damaged and returned merchandise from the full-price stores.

Customers can also visit the flagship store in New York to sell their used clothing items in return for gift cards that are valid in-store and online, including at Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, Trunk Club, and HauteLook. In the future, mailing items in exchange for gift cards will also be an option.

The Store

To create the store, Olivia Kim worked with Marc Hundley, a furniture designer and artist. The store will also feature a Bonberi Bodega outpost for food and drinks. Those offerings will focus on sustainable market items like noodles, salads, fresh juices, and grain bowls.

Kim said that the goal of the new resale store is to give shoppers an elevated, unique resale shopping experience. It also allows people to be part of the circular fashion economy. Kim indicated that the resale shop should help customers feel good about what they buy as well as how they buy it.

Nordstrom partnered with Yerdle to handle the backend operations. These include repairing and cleaning products, processing inventory, processing fulfillment, and pricing. Also, it will authenticate certain luxury designer items, which is part of a partnership with Entrupy.

Reasons for the Addition

According to the press release, Nordstrom chose to open this resale store to offer customers yet another way to engage with the brand and find items. It is also another step on the company’s path towards sustainability.

Experts also speculate that it may be a necessary change as the brand aims to remain in business in the 21st century as fewer people shop at department stores like the ones the company is known for.

This is just another example of the ways that the retail landscape is changing due to shifts in consumer habits, even for established companies like Nordstrom.
