Epiroc acquires South African rock drilling parts maker Weco

Swedish equipment manufacturer Epiroc has successfully acquired Weco, a South African manufacturer of precision-engineered Rock Drilling Parts.

Weco has been operating in Krugersdorp, Gauteng, for more than 40 years, serving mainly underground mining customers in the Southern Africa region.

The acquisition, for an undisclosed amount, strengthens Epiroc’s manufacturing capabilities and expands its product portfolio of spare parts in Africa.

Weco generated about R160-million in revenue in the financial year ended March 31, 2023.

Its facility comprises a workshop to repair drifters and a 2 000 m2 under-roof factory with more than 15 different computer numerical control machines.

Weco also has a research and development department that conducts testing and measurement, allowing for reverse engineering of most components and component development.
