The PM Vishwakarma Scheme is a new initiative launched by the Government of India to provide skill development and employment opportunities to the workers in the construction sector. The scheme aims to enhance the quality, productivity and safety of the construction industry, which contributes to the infrastructure development and economic growth of the country.

The scheme has the following salient features:

– It covers workers in various trades such as masonry, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, etc.

– It provides recognition of prior learning (RPL) and certification to the workers who have acquired skills through informal learning or work experience.

– It also offers short-term training and upskilling courses to the workers who want to upgrade their skills and knowledge.

– It facilitates the placement of trained and certified workers in the construction sector through a dedicated portal and mobile app.

– It provides incentives and benefits to the workers such as insurance cover, social security, health and safety measures, etc.

The scheme has the following guidelines:

– The scheme is implemented by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and other stakeholders.

– The scheme is open to all workers in the construction sector who are above 18 years of age and have a valid Aadhaar card.

– The workers can register for the scheme through the PM Vishwakarma portal or app or through the Common Service Centres (CSCs) across the country.

– The workers can choose from various RPL or training courses offered by the accredited training providers under the scheme.

– The workers have to undergo an assessment and certification process after completing the RPL or training course.

– The workers can access the placement services through the PM Vishwakarma portal or app or through the CSCs.

– The workers can avail the incentives and benefits under the scheme after verifying their identity and eligibility through biometric authentication.
