Singtel boosts cyber skills of Singapore’s SMEs with new programme. SMEs can now enhance their cybersecurity abilities and response to attacks through Singtel’s Cyber Elevate programme, which includes risk assessment, workshops, and incident response support at subsidised rates.

In a bid to boost the cybersecurity resilience of Singapore’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), Singtel has launched the Cyber Elevate Programme. The initiative aims to enhance the cybersecurity capabilities and skill sets of Singaporean SMEs, equipping them with the knowledge to prevent and respond to cyberattacks effectively. With almost 40% of cyber attacks in Singapore targeting SMEs, the programme comes at a critical time when these businesses face increasing threats from phishing and ransomware attacks.

SMEs in certain sectors, such as manufacturing and retail, are particularly vulnerable as they often hold valuable data and intellectual property. However, they often lack the necessary resources and technical skills to deal with cyberattacks effectively. Budget constraints and limited access to cybersecurity expertise have made it challenging for SMEs to prioritize their cybersecurity efforts. Singtel’s Cyber Elevate programme aims to bridge this gap by offering a comprehensive range of services and support tailored to the specific needs of SMEs.

One of the key components of the Cyber Elevate programme is a cyber risk audit. This assessment helps SMEs identify potential vulnerabilities and weaknesses in their cybersecurity posture, allowing them to take proactive measures to address these issues. By understanding their risk profile, SMEs can prioritize their cybersecurity investments and allocate their limited resources effectively.

The programme also includes training workshops to enhance the cybersecurity skills of SMEs. These workshops cover a range of topics, including threat awareness, incident response, and best practices for securing digital assets. By providing SMEs with the necessary knowledge and skills, Singtel aims to empower these businesses to defend themselves against cyber threats effectively.

Support from key partners is another crucial aspect of the Cyber Elevate programme. Singtel has partnered with organizations such as Blackpanda to provide SMEs with risk management scans and emergency response services during cyber attacks. This collaboration aims to democratize cyber resilience by making these services more accessible to SMEs in Asia.

To further incentivize SMEs to participate in the programme, Singtel offers subsidised rates of up to 90% for eligible businesses. This is made possible through Singtel CSI’s participation in the SkillsFuture Queen Bee network, which provides funding support for skills development initiatives. To be eligible for the programme, SMEs must be registered and incorporated in Singapore, have a minimum of 30% local shareholding, and have an annual turnover of not more than S$100 million or no more than 200 employees.

The Cyber Elevate programme addresses several critical areas of cybersecurity for SMEs. Firstly, it helps SMEs identify and protect their digital assets. With the increasing reliance on digital platforms and technologies, it is essential for businesses to safeguard their data and intellectual property. By conducting a cyber risk audit, SMEs can gain insights into their vulnerabilities and implement appropriate measures to safeguard their assets.

Secondly, the programme focuses on resolving operational issues after a cyber attack. SMEs often struggle to recover from cyber incidents, as they lack the necessary resources and expertise. By providing mentorship workshops and incident response support, Singtel aims to guide SMEs through the recovery process, helping them resume normal operations quickly.

Communication is another critical aspect of cybersecurity incident management. In the aftermath of a cyber attack, SMEs need to effectively communicate with authorities and customers to minimize the impact on their reputation and business continuity. The Cyber Elevate programme equips SMEs with the necessary skills and knowledge to handle these communications effectively.

Finally, the programme emphasizes the importance of implementing recovery measures. Recovering from a cyber attack involves more than just restoring systems and data. SMEs need to implement robust measures to prevent future incidents and enhance their overall cybersecurity posture. The Cyber Elevate programme provides SMEs with the guidance and support needed to implement these measures effectively.

Singtel’s Cyber Elevate programme is a one-stop training and cyber incident management programme for SMEs in Singapore. By offering a comprehensive range of services, including risk audits, training workshops, and support from key partners, the programme aims to equip SMEs with the necessary capabilities and skill sets to prepare for and respond to cyber attacks effectively.

With almost 40% of cyber attacks in Singapore targeting SMEs, the Cyber Elevate programme is a timely initiative that addresses the specific needs of these businesses. By subsidizing the programme and making it more accessible to SMEs, Singtel aims to level the playing field and ensure that all businesses, regardless of their size, can enhance their cybersecurity resilience.

The partnership between Singtel and Blackpanda is particularly noteworthy, as it brings together the expertise of two leading organizations in the field of cybersecurity. By combining Singtel’s extensive network and resources with Blackpanda’s risk management and emergency response capabilities, the partnership aims to provide SMEs with the support they need during cyber incidents.
