David Warner (Australia) – 335 Runs

Veteran Australian batter David Warner smashed 10th Highest Individual score in Tests when he batted against Pakistan in Adelaide on 29th November, 2019. Warner wasn’t having great form before this match and it turned out to be important for the left-handed opening batter. He remained unbeaten 335 runs off 418 deliveries hitting 39 fours and a six. Australia declared their first Innings on 589 for 3 and went on to win the match by an innings and 48 runs.

Wally Hammond (England) – 336 Runs

Former England cricketer Wally Hammond comes ninth in the list of highest individual score in Test cricket history. The right-handed batter remained unbeaten on 336 runs against New Zealand in Auckland on 31st March, 1933. Hammond smashed 34 fours and 10 sixes during his knock. With the help of Hammond’s innings, England posted 548 for 7 in reply to New Zealand’s 158 runs in the first innings. However, the match ended in a draw. 

Hanif Mohammad (Pakistan) – 337 Runs

The next name in the list is of Pakistan’s first cricket star, Hanif Mohammad. In a Test match against West Indies in Bridgetown on 17th January, 1958, Pakistan were forced to follow-on after trailing by  473 runs in the first innings. After that, right-handed opening batter Hanif went to play one of the best innings in the history of Test cricket. He got out after scoring 337 runs smashing 24 boundaries, due to which, Pakistan 657 for 8 in their second innings. Pakistan successfully saved the Test match as it ended in a draw.

Sanath Jayasuriya (Sri Lanka) – 340 Runs

Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya also makes his appearance in the list for his mammoth knock against India in Colombo on 2nd August, 1997. In this match, Sri Lanka also highest Test total of all time by the nation. In reply to India’s 537 runs in the first innings, Sri Lanka declared their after posting a mammoth total of 952 runs for the loss of 6 wickets and took a lead of 415 runs. Jayasuriya was the top scorer for Sri Lanka with 340 runs off 578 balls, hitting 36 fours and two sixes. The match ended in draw as none of the teams got to bat in the second innings.

Leonard Hutton (England) – 364 Runs

Leonard Hutton, one of the best cricketers to ever play the sport from England, fins himself on the sixth position in the list as he scored 364 runs against Australia at the Oval on 20th August, 1938. In his knock of 847 deliveries, Hutton smashed 35 boundaries, as England posted 903 runs for the loss of 7 wickets, which is also the second highest Test total of all time. England didn’t get to bat in the second innings as they won the match by an innings and 579 runs. 

Garry Sobers (West Indies) – 365 Runs

The legendary West Indian cricketer comes fifth on the list for his memorable knock in Kingston on 26th February, 1958. West Indies posted 790 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in reply to Pakistan’s 328 runs in the first innings. Garry Sobers was the top scorer with 365 runs hitting 38 boundaries, along with Conrad Hunte’s double ton. West Indies went on to win the match by an innings and 174 runs. 

Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka) – 374 Runs 

Sri Lankan cricket legend, Mahela Jayawardene comes fourth in the list for his mammoth knock against South Africa in Colombo on 27th July, 2006. After bowling out South Africa for 169 runs, Sri Lanka went on to score 756 runs for the loss 5 of 5 wickets. Jayawardene was Sri Lanka’s main man with 374 runs off 572 balls, smashing 43 fours and a six, along with the double ton by Kumar Sangakkara. The hosts won the match easily by an innings and 153 runs. 

Brian Lara (West Indies) – 375 Runs

The West Indian great Brian Lara earns the third spot in the list for his mighty knock against England at St Johns on 16th April, 1994. Batting first, West Indies declared their innings on 593 for the loss of 5 wickets. Lara was the top scorer with 375 runs off 538 balls, hitting 45 boundaries. Eventually, the match ended in a draw.

Mathew Hayden (Australia) – 380 Runs

Former Australian batter Matthew Hayden comes second in the list for his fiery knock against Zimbabwe in Perth on 9th October, 2003. Batting first, Australia posted a mammoth total of 735 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Hayden smashed 380 runs off 437 balls, hitting 38 fours and 11 sixes. Australia won the match comfortably by an innings and 175 runs. 

Brian Lara (West Indies) – 400 Runs

Brian Lara makes his entry in the list again, and this time, he earns the top spot for the highest ever individual score by a batter in the history of Test cricket. On 10th April, 2004 against nglaat St. Johns, Brian Lara created history by becoming the first ever batter to reach the milestone of 400 runs in international cricket. He remained unbeaten on 400 runs off 582 balls, smashing 43 fours and four sixes. Because of his knock, West Indies declared their first innings on 751 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. The match ended in a draw.
