Widely popular with the nickname ‘Gabbar’ among cricket fans, Shikhar Dhawan finds himself in the list of greatest openers to ever play for India. Dhawan is one of India’s key contributors for India in major international trophies like the Champions Trophy and the World Cup. He was the top run scorer in the 2013 Champions Trophy, where India went on to become champions of the tournament and also topped the chart in the 2017 edition, with India being runners-up. Dhawan is also the ninth fastest batter to achieve the milestone of 4000 runs in ODI, as he took 85 innings for it during a match against Sri Lanka, Visakhapatnam, 2017.

8. Quinton de Kock (South Africa)

South Africa’s wicketkeeping batter, Quinton de Kock is one of the most impressive openers in modern day cricket. He can take on any bowler in his day and became a very well known figure after his three centuries in the 2015 ODI series against India on their turf. After that De Kock didn’t look back and went on to become the eighth fastest batter to accumulate 4000 runs in ODI. The left-handed batter took 94 innings to achieve the milestone during a match against Sri Lanka in Pallekele in 2018.

7. David Warner (Australia)

David Warner is arguably one of the most explosive opening batters in world cricket. The left-handed batter from Australia is always at his best in the limited overs format. Heis also one of the most entertaining cricketers and is immensely popular among Indian fans. Warner finds himself in the seventh position in the list of fastest batters to score 4000 runs in ODI. He achieved the milestone in his 93rd inning, in a match against Bangladesh, during the 2017 Champions Trophy in England.

He took 91 innings to achieve the milestone during a match against West Indies in Southampton, 2017.
